The fascist, anti-choice, oppressors of human rights here were quick to point out that another bill to ban assault weapons had been introduced by one of their own in the freest state in the union...for the second time. As if we are somehow immune to fascists haters of freedom! Far from it! Being FREE means we allow even the freedom haters the choice to show their colors.

The first bill got NO support and was withdrawn almost immediately. The 2nd bill languished for several weeks, gained 3 supporters and has been withdrawn.

Our liberal Democrat/Progessive Governor, Peter Shumlin, who also carries guns and hunts moose and bear, stated that he would not sign it, even if passed. (editors note:  ) "Not in Vermont" was his answer to whether there would be an assault weapons ban.

Shumlin favors legalization of marijuana and as one of his first official acts in office performed a marriage ceremony for a Gay couple. As a liberal that supports human rights, he opposes the travesty of disarming free people. Our former pro-gun Governor, Howard Dean, served as the Chairman of the Democrat National Committee after his tenure as Governor.

Just wanted to complete the record as it has been a week since the bill was withdrawn and no one has mentioned it.

Shumlin was pressed on gun control.

[Gov. Shumlin:] "Clearly you are going to have to do some things in this country that get magazines that can pop off 60-70 bullets when you pull the trigger -- no one is hunting a white tail deer with one of those. Lets do some sensible things that get them out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them," Shumlin said.

Politico: Ok, just to be clear, you want universal background checks?

Gov. Shumlin: I don't think there are too many rational people who would object to background checks.

Politico: So universal background checks, and then some restriction on the size of the magazine?

Gov. Shumlin: Yes.

Read the post above. (try) Point out where it says Shumlin favors an assault weapons ban. He is also looking to the Federal government to ban large capacity magazines, because...

1. To do so by a state is STUPID

2. He knows it will never happen.

3, He is a politician and he "sounds good" to ignorant civil rights haters who know little about firearms while not supporting anything that would actually occur.

We have background checks already and the system we have was supported by the NRA and added to the Brady Bill against the objections of civil rights haters that only wanted a waiting period and not background checks.

ALL sales of firearms, even at gun shows, by licensed dealers MUST go through a background check. If you do nt know that. it is because you are ignorant but it does not stop you from talking. If you want private sales added to that, then simply make the system available to private individuals. We do not object to background checks or keeping guns out of the hands of criminals as best we can. We DO oppose the stripping of rights by oppressive fascists.

It is ironic entirely predictable you did not make your post a WEEK AGO when the assault weapons bill was withdrawn., and I predicted as much when Evylin (where IS Evy on this article...Hellllloooooooooo) posted the original announcement that a fascist had introduced such legislation in Vermont. That's called "damage control"

actually, he's right. no one is hunting white tail deer with one of those as what is described in bold is an automatic firearm. and when was the last time a legal automatic was implicated in a crime?

Funny how you call Ev out when you have been called out several times in many threads that you try to talk big in. She isn't in here because she could care less about Vermont, just like the rest of the rational thinking folks on here. And what's more ironic than that, this is the second time I've seen you've insult someone because they didn't know something you claim to know. But you're pro choice and for people's rights?

What's so funny is the so called right and pro choice crowd always resort to name calling and border line racist remarks every time someone doesn't agree with them. But i guess that's all of your freedom to choose.

"Oppressive language does more than represent violence; it is violence; does more than represent the limits of knowledge; it limits knowledge." -Toni Morrison

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.

The AK-47 was a stock automatic weapon and had not been modified, Duke said.

Both weapons were purchased legally

Sorry, Gary. I'm usually not here in the evenings (when this was posted) and it was buried on another page by the time I checked VJ this morning from work. I appreciate that you were concerned about me, though.

said ak-47 seems to have been a fluke purchase.

said dealer screwed up as given the history of the purchaser, there's no way he could have passed the atf review.

Idaho State Police investigators learned Tuesday that Hamilton had purchased the AK-47 assault rifle from a federally licensed firearms dealer in Harvard, Idaho, in late 2004 or early 2005, before he was in trouble with the law,
On September 15th, 1988, a 13-year veteran of the Dayton, Ohio police department, Patrolman Roger Waller, then 32, used his fully automatic MAC-11 .380 caliber submachine gun to kill a police informant, 52-year-old Lawrence Hileman. Patrolman Waller pleaded guilty in 1990, and he and an accomplice were sentenced to 18 years in prison.

HO said he had owned a .380-caliber machine gun, the same caliber bullet that killed Olaes. He also said he had registered the guns with the BATFE when he purchased them.

from your own link

But because the fully automatic AK47 is classified as a machine gun under the National Firearms Act, a purchaser would have to buy it from a registered seller or firearms dealer, pay a $200 tax to transfer the registration, and pass an ATF background check, she said.

The application of someone convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence would be rejected, she said. Also, the law requires a registered gun owner convicted of such a crime to transfer the gun to someone else.

in other words, the seller screwed up, and the buyer wasn't supposed to have any firearms to begin with.

I can't help you with your reading comprehension fail:

Both weapons were purchased legally before Hamilton was convicted of domestic assault on his girlfriend in 2006,
