Has anyone had an interview after April 15th and the Consulate/Embassy requested a copy of the tax filing for the petitioner? If so, would they take an extension in lieu of the tax filing or any other documentation?

Shouldn't be a problem if you have the 2011 tax return as well as other proof of income such as employment letter, pay stubs etc.

Hubby had his interview in February 2010 and I made sure that I had 2009 taxes filed and gave him a copy of our turbo tax so he could give it them at the interview. They were very happy that he provided the latest tax return. It didn't matter that it wasn't a transcript, I think they were just looking for the final amount of taxable income that was filed for that year.

Has anyone had an interview after April 15th and the Consulate/Embassy requested a copy of the tax filing for the petitioner? If so, would they take an extension in lieu of the tax filing or any other documentation?

My husband had interview in June 2009. I had filed extension for the year 2008. My husband did take copy of extension with him to interview and I believe the embassy did ask for it. But having extension was not an issue. He passed the interview w/o any issues. Now, my only disclaimer here is, I am not sure if all US Embassy behaves the same way.

They should take an extension in lieu of the actual taxes but then we hear these CO are like the final determinants in these and some may insist they need to see some document to make their decision. This tax issue is another reason i was hoping for an early interview date( since the closer it gets to april, the more likley they will ask for it). It was so much more straightforward filing as single. Now I have my mom and I am married. Arrrgh I hate paperwork!

I understand. When I talked to NVC they said that as long as I have the copy of the federal tax extension, it shouldn't be a problem. I also sent an inquiry to the Consulate in Lagos to be safe. I hope they respond. In either case, I will make sure I include a copy of my 2012 W-2's, Federal Extension, and Employer Letter with the DS-230. If I can get my taxes filed before I go see the hubby, I plan to take 3 copies in addition to the filing copy to the local IRS office, to be stamped and will bring along with me on the plane.

Hello. Not that we went through the interview yet, but I was just reading about preparing for the interview and came across this:

under What Must I Bring to the Interview?

IF a sponsor filed an I-864 (Affidavit of Support) AND provided the NVC with proof of an IRS Federal Income Tax Extension in lieu of a Federal Income Tax Return, the applicant must bring the sponsor's most recent Federal Income Tax
