He was probably overweight! Pre-adolescent male genitalia can be completely buried by excess lower abdominal adiposity. When doing routine exams of such children I will often reassure the parent by demonstrating how much more normal his genitalia appears when the fat tissue around the base of the ####### is gently pushed back. Too bad this boy didn't have a doctor show his mother this, if indeed this was a contributing factor in this tragic story!
