Well, the question is asking for current ANNUAL income, so it can't be monthly. I'd suggest in your case looking at the previous 12 months, add them all up and use that number. Or, do as you suggest and simply take the most recent monthly amount and multiply by 12. Use whichever is higher ;)

Thanks a bunch! I'm going to multiple my most recent one. I don't work during the summer because school is closed, that's why it's all over the place.

Saylin,

I received an email from the Montreal consulate today, acknowleding my interview date, they've also made a list of the things I have to bring to the interview, for taxes it says 2011. Do I have to take the original copy or a photocopy is fine? because I don't have the original tax return, I'd have to ask the hubs to send me the original ASAP if it's needed.

I was kind of glad when I saw 2011 taxes on there, that means they don't require 2012 on my interview date, hence it's before the tax deadline, I did manage to book an appointment with my hubby's accountant though, he will file his taxes and send me a copy just in case. I'm off to Montreal in 3 weeks and 1 day, can't waitttttttttt!!

ps, has anybody ever received an email from the consulate asking them what to bring along with you?

When you first get to an operator, they'll automatically ask for either your USCIS receipt number or your case number. Give your receipt number. They'll then ask what they can do for you. Just ask: has my case been assigned a case number yet? Simple as that.

Obviously the original tax returns are sent to the IRS, so a photocopy is sufficient.

And yeah, if possible, still try to get a copy of 2012 tax returns as a newer return will be better for your case, but as we've discussed, your interview is before the tax deadline, so they technically can't request for 2012 tax information yet. Even a 2012 W2 would be good yes.gif

ummmm, he did e-file for 2011, so I'm thinking the copy he has on hand is the original one, am I right? if they're ok with the photocopy, so am I! lol

Well, in e-filing cases, there's really no paper form. He can just send you the digital copy of the return, no need for him to print it out and send it to you. You can print the return yourself from the digital copy.

I see, ok. I just printed out his 2011 taxes off of our AOS package. Thanks :)

Edit: We got married in 2012, technically he was still single in 2011, so he filed as single

Yeah, I was thinking 2012 for some reason, then remembered you were talking about 2011 taxes, so I removed that line in an edit laughing.gif

Thanks so much for the reply. So no need to fill out the form I got in the email.? Just the 261? For the opt in follow the same instructions as for Canada?

For Mexico, you're required to do online forms. Do NOT send the DS-3032. You have til fill out the DS-261 online.

And send the optin email asap! You should have done that as soon as you got a case number. Go go go.

Like Darnell suggested, you may want to read my wiki on EP and online forms as the process is almost identical to Canada's process.

Once the packages are accepted, then the case is closed either at the end of the review or within a few days. So, you can very well have a case complete by the end of next week yes.gif

Whether her income is $0 or not, tax information is still required. If she hasn't filed taxed due to not meeting the threshold, then she'll need to submit a letter explaining why she hasn't filed taxed last year (2011).

What about 2012? Did she earn enough money to file taxes this year?

Keep in mind, to qualify with assets, you need three times the amount of the poverty line for your household size.

I called NVC to talk to them abt me filling my I-864 for my spouse, instead of me seeking advice from her, i end up providing her useful information. I told her i filed jointly with my spouse who is outside the US and this woman was shocked as to how i can file with my wife when she is not in the US and i had to explain to her IRS issues ITIN for the purpose and she was like oh yea okay.

So I guess for those filling jointly with their spouse you might want to include ur spouse ITIN.

Thanks, i hope this help.

Yup, you ONLY fill out the DS-261. Ignore the DS-3032 as you do not fill that out in your case. The same applies to the DS-230/DS-260. You fill out the DS-260 online and ignore the paper DS-230.

Yes, the optin is the same. I have a sample email format in the wiki.
