I will call all the expensive lines I need to! Haha! Thanks for that info! Do you know where I can find that number? Or will it be provided once I'm assigned an interview date? Here's hoping I can do that :D

Cat

It's that charge-by-the-minute consulate line. I don't actually know it but I know someone over at BE will for sure, Ian or Rene or someone like that.

NVC is on the ball today. I got the e-mail saying my choice of agent has been processed and I can pay the IV Bill. Went to the payment portal and indeed I can now pay.

Question - I was looking at the screenshots for the DS-260 last night and there is a question about whether you 'worked' for a charity. I sat on the Board of Directors for a charity when I was in the US before. It was entirely unpaid and volunteer. Not even re-imbursement of expenses. Is this something I have to report? And what is their interest in it?

Thanks.

I did not have that question on my DS-260. And I actually DID work for a charity! I'd definitely have remembered that one. When are the screenshots from? Because the form has definitely changed. As a board member, here in Ontario, you are considered a volunteer.

The screen shots are the ones that are referred to on here and found on Docstoc. It's a bummer because I am not sure how recent they are but they are the only ones I found. Did you find anything more recent out there? I am quite concerned about having all of the info available. Did you stop and save and resume the input on the form? Does that feature work well? If it does then no worries.

Thanks.

I stopped and saved many times. And I had to do it for myself and 2 kids so I am VERY familiar with how it looked. I also have a saved PDF copy of it to refer to.

I will work on getting a screen shot of mine for someone to post as reference. But I know that when Saylin and I discussed the most recent online forms she was pleasantly surprised to hear that my forms were a lot less bulky than those that were being used previously. My guess is that the screenshots are outdated. BUT keep in mind that the form can change at any time.

Be careful. For tax purposes "working" for a charity is different from "volunteering" for one. If you are a "volunteer" you cannot even be paid for your expenses, not even given lunch if you're working in a soup kitchen (though who's to know). The key is that you are not to get money or goods that could be given to a citizen or resident.

The screen shots are from the ORIGINAL DS-260, which was first released back in 2010, I believe. So, although they're outdated, they're still comprehensive in my opinion, and provide a good overview of the form. So, following the screen shots, one will likely have extra information at the end, but I think the preparation is worth it, as it makes filling out the DS-260 smoother.

I was responding based on charities here in Ontario. I was the Assistant Executive Director at a charity. All members of our board were volunteers. They could be reimbursed for expenses and have food given to them etc. They are required to volunteer their time only. I missed the part where the poster said in the U.S. so I can't speak with any authority on that.

Saylin, I'm actually in the process of making a clean copy for you to use somewhere because mine was SO different that I think it might ease some minds to share it.

if you have already written to NVCResearch@state.gov and not gotten a satisfactory answer, write to your Senator's office. The liaison can access special numbers for the NVC and the USCIS and find out what you need to know. You are well outside the time when you should have heard something.

I didn't send mine through my congressman. I sent it directly to the NVC. I didn't call everyday. I received an email after sending it that had this in the body:

Your request for the expeditious processing of this immigrant visa petition is currently under review. You will be informed of the results when the review is completed.

I called anyway seven days later and found it hadn't been forwarded to the embassy yet! Who knows why. It has been forwarded as of today and now I wait for the embassy to respond to the NVC and the NVC to send me an email. I get the feeling I have the plague when it comes to dealing with the embassy directly. Under the old process, before Aug 2011, I would have been able to use DCF and have this petition taken care of in a few weeks, maybe a month at the latest. Now they won't even talk to me.

How the expedite things work? Is there any form or is it some letter from congressman?? I just got my NOA 2 last week. So what I have to do to expedite my case???

Thank you.

Have you contacted USCIS yet to see what they say? See if it's still there, or if they've sent it to NVC, what date did they send it.
