Foreign State of Chargeability usually lists a country, not a city, as it's typically the country where the beneficiary was born. It doesn't necessarily mean that's where they're interviewing. Are the three letters of your case number for the Mumbai or New Delhi embassy? That'll tell you write away where you're interviewing. You can confirm with NVC though by calling and asking where you're interviewing.

I just got off the phone with the NVC. The post they were assigning our case to was indeed Mumbai (BMB). I told them that it was incorrect since the Indian state my husband resides in falls under the jurisdiction of New Delhi.

For obvious reasons we would much rather prefer to interview in New Delhi. For starters, New Delhi is way way closer to my husband than Mumbai and also Mumbai does not allow USC petitioners to attend the interview!

Luckily we caught the mistake before they scheduled an interview!

I am the petitioner.

Ok finally.

So, someone just confirm something for me?

Since I do everything online, there were be actually no need for me to mail anything to the US during this process, right?

Congrats on your NOA2!!!

Quick question:

I don't have IE

Download IE. Now. Only use that for signing onto the payment portal to pay bills. It may work in Chrome, but there's no guarantee. And if it works for one bill, there's no guarantee it will work for the second.

I just got off the phone with the NVC. The post they were assigning our case to was indeed Mumbai (BMB). I told them that it was incorrect since the Indian state my husband resides in falls under the jurisdiction of New Delhi.

So, were they able to change the embassy for you?

Thanks ^_^

I wrote an ENTIRE wiki on EP and online forms. It's linked in the first post (have you looked at the first two posts yet?) and it's also linked in my signature below. Click on the wiki and read it. It's long, but very thorough (in my opinion).

Congrats Saylin! on top of 2 degrees you are earning a gold medal here:-)

Thanks :D I'll actually end up having 3 degrees as I got one in Canada before leaving ;)

OK THAT'S BIZARRE.... I just called the NVC to check on our case progress. Here's how it went:

Representative: Welcome to the National Visa Center, may I please have a case or receipt number?

Me: Who am I speaking with, please?

Rep: This is [Rep's name], how can I help you?

Me: Hi, this is [my name]. I don't have an NVC number yet, and I'm trying to find out whether one has been assigned to the case.

Rep: Oh, I think you need to speak to someone on the other line. Please hold.

Me:

Me:

Automated phone system: Hello, you have reached the NVC Congressional Service line. You have received this message because all of our representatives are assisting with other Congressional cases. Please leave a message with... [yadda, yadda]

Me:

Me: [leaving message] Hi, my name is [name] and I'm calling about CIS file number [file number]. I need to know whether an NVC case number has been assigned. Would you please call me back at [my phone number] and let me know what the NVC case number is. Thank you and I hope to hear back soon.

Talk about do-it-yourself. :P

I'm a dual US/Hungarian citizen (both by birth; Hungarian citizenship verification TBA), and my husband is a dual British/Irish citizen (by treaty) from Northern Ireland. We are atheists.

Eh blink.gif The first person would have been able to tell if a case number was assigned or not based on the receipt number. Must be their first day or something headbonk.gif

blink.gif Before your NVC numbers are assigned, you should be able to access your case information through your USCIS receipt number. I never had to leave any messages - giving them my receipt number they were always able to tell me whether NVC numbers had been assigned yet or not. I would call back and try it that way.

That's what I called for. I know the case was received just yesterday because I talked to an NVC rep last night, and I was trying to find out how long it would take for the NVC case number to be assigned. The weird thing was that I got patched through to the Congressional inquiry line. Who knew they could do that?

Haha, this turned into an addiction quite awhile ago! laughing.gif Thank goodness I can multi-task! :D

Hehe, thanks! ^_^

If you sign up for EP, then yes, you won't be sending anything to NVC at all; both packages would be emailed.

Haha, I wish I was taking a vacation! Once April hits, I'm starting an internship. 40 hours a week. Along with my current part-time job of around an average of 20 hours per week. I'm going to be even more exhausted! laughing.gif Plus, at some point, I need to gather my documents for ROC, as I've only got about a month and a half left before my green card expires headbonk.gif But anyways, at least my internship is only 6 weeks, so once May 10 hits (the day I graduate incidentally), I'll have some free time. I'm planning on going to Canada for a week, probably the beginning of June once I have free time. Then, coming back and looking for a job :)

And nope, neither degree deals with immigration law. This little itty bitty town I moved to doesn't have immigration law as one of the available degrees at their school. I'm going for Programming and Visual Communication though.

Wow, they already got to your DS-3032 email? blink.gif That was fast. Re-send the DS-3032 again. It was rejected because they weren't ready for document intake. But perhaps when they get to your second DS-3032, they'll be ready.

You do have a lot on your plate. Hope all goes well with the internship and when you go to Canada, don't do a thing just chill. With your degree you should be able to find a job quickly. Good luck

So, were they able to change the embassy for you?

Not yet. The Rep I spoke with said she couldn't do it over the phone and that I would have send an email addressing the problem. It does clearly state though on the DOS website that my husband should be interviewing in New Delhi based on his residence. She did acknowledge that there was an error. I'm not sure how long we will have to wait now to have a new NVC number reassigned to us. I wish I would have caught this sooner. :(

I am the petitioner.

I got a reply from NVC about my DS-3032 that is confusing.

Dear Sir/Madam:

The National Visa Center (NVC) received your inquiry regarding the immigrant visa petition: XXXXXXXXXX filed by XXXXXX on behalf of XXXX.

We entered the immigrant visa petition mentioned in your letter into our computer system and assigned a case number. The petitioner, principal applicant, and/or attorney of record will receive instructions regarding further processing of this petition.

We are unable to process your choice of address and agent this time. Please continue to notify the NVC of any change in the petitioner's or principal applicant's address.

What should I do?? Should I wait for the instructions from them or what?
