Hi all,

Here is the backgroud. I was closing on a home during this NVC process.

I sent the AOS packet before closing so I used the previous address as you never know if closing can happen smoothly (for the matter of fact the last issue was the title company asking that my wife be present to sign!). Luckily I was able to get an exception and closed yesterday and got a new place :-)

Now I got the IV bill and paid it and I want to send the IV packet today and I am a bit nervous regarding my change of address during the process.

Any advice? I was thinking sending the IV packet with the new address and add a page to explain my change of address between the AOS and IV packets.

Will really appreciate your advice!

Thank you so much!

USCIS

23-Jan-13 - NOA2 : Interview at field office - APPROVED same day!!!
NVC

So why people send photocopies with the originals to NVC. U confusing them, send only originals of birth cerificates and marriage certificates with no photocopies of it, NVC do NOT need photocopies of these documents but only originals. You already send photocopies of these documents (marriage and birth certificates) to USCIS when filling I-130 and is part of ur casefile sent to NVC when ur case get approved. NVC have these photocopies already thus why they need originals to go with these phtocopies so why send them something they already have.

Thus why people get RFE for originals bcos they send originals and photocopies and this confuses them to ascertain which is which.

If you read department of state website it says original documents requirements and photocopy requirement.

Original Document Requirements

You and each family member immigrating with you to the United States must submit to the NVC original documents issued by an appropriate authority, or certified copies of those documents listed in this section.

Photocopy Requirements

You and each family member immigrating with you must also submit to the NVC a photocopy of the original documents or certified copies of the documents.

There is where people get confused. What is saying is there are documents they required originals like birth and marriage certificats and some documents they required photocopy of the original like the applicants passport biographic data page and military record, here they required photocopy of the original NOT the original passport biographic data page and photocopy of the original military record NOT original.

Unless someone can prove me wrong to the effect that someone got Rfe for not sending photocopies with the original birth or marriage certificates.

Thanks

SO saylin, let me ask you if u DONT send photocopies of the originals with the originals documents submitted, NVC will RFE for those photocopies of the original submitted.

Am not getting upset but i think you are. am just asking a question here. No need for u to catch emotions here. Thus all i want to know if U get RFE for NOT sending photocopies with originals. I send only originals upfront no copies to NVC when i was applying for my mom in 2009 and there was no problem and my mom received all originals back at the embassy.

No one here is getting upset except you. First of all, you didn't really ask questions since there isn't a single question mark in all of your posts; in fact, you just stated that someone should "prove you wrong". Saylin has done a great job putting together an NVC guide for everyone to follow, many VJ members followed it accordingly and have gone through this process fine. There's no reason for you to scold her for helping us. Just because YOU may have experienced something different than the majority doesn't mean it has to apply to everyone else. Whatever Saylin has put for the document requirements of photocopies, is compliant with what NVC wants in this day and time. Other VJ members have already told you what happens if you don't send in copies, so I don't think I have to repeat that.

Folks u getting me wrong here, am not trying to scold anybody here, if u been following my post i appreciate everything saylin has done for this forum. I even asked her a question abt filling Q.32 on the DS-230 form thinking a filled it wrong to which she replied that is okay and I thank her.

I was just simply stating a point abt copies with originals and the effect if there will be an RFE/CHECKLIST if u dont send one with the originals.

I said "proved me wrong" thinking i might be wrong and u really need to send copies with originals or else an RFE/CHECKLIST for those photocopies.

The answer is NO okay. No you wouldn't get a checklist for not having photocopies. It's a courtesy to do so. They aren't confused they know a photocopy from an original. Goodness. All the millions of papers they produce if they happen to RFE someone which could happen oh well resend and wait. Its just another waiting delay.

Why are you just pulling apart something that is of no matter? Move on. Next question.

When asking actual questions, please use a question mark. Otherwise you are making statements. No you won't get an RFE, but you also aren't following their instructions. Now they have to photocopy and so you've made their review of the case take longer. The less time, the better, right? Have a great day!

Well put new address on DS230. This is where the green card will be sent. Than follow up with NVC and call and make sure its changed in system.

At interview you would be taking a fresh new updated I-864. So there you go. Long as the address is right on the DS-230 thats the most important.

Agreed, I would call them on Monday and update the address with them, and after you confirm AOS is accepted, also call back and make sure address is correct, and send new address with IV packet as dwheels76 had mentioned. This way you make sure your address is updated before they look at your IV packet and it won't trigger an RFE. Saylin could advise further, she's the real expert here.

Hi everyone,

I would like to know what you think I should do. I've paid all my bills and need to send in the IV package. The ONLY document I'm waiting on is the original police report. It's en route. There's no tracking/express mail service available so it's just coming plain old mail. I know it's hard to believe in this day and age but it's true. Anyway, I Don't know where it is or how long it's going to take.

I have a scanned copy of the police report. Should I send in everything now with the scanned report and then send in the original police report later? OR just wait for the police report to get here.

What do you think? I think you're going to say WAIT. Plz don't say Wait.

I just want this process to be done with already. :)

Thanks everyone. Saylin, you are the coolest.

In your situation, it's best to wait. I know it's hard to hear, but it's the truth. They're going to want the original police certificate. I would have suggested something else if your spouse still had the original and hadn't mailed it. But, now that it's been mailed, your best option is just to wait and include it. You'll experience the same time frames if you send it now and get a checklist or if you wait and send everything in together.

We paid AOS 13-03 and it was confirmed 15-03 :)

My husband will send the AOS package today in the morning :) Woo Hoo ! :)

Yay, grats on progress! kicking.gif

You won't get a checklist for them, but you also run the risk of not getting them back at the interview.

Sending photocopies doesn't confuse the workers at NVC, uscis, or the consulate. If you don't want to send copies, don't send copies. There's really no reason to be so upset about this.

Agreed with this good.gif

You do four things:

1. Send the IV package with your new address

2. Call NVC up Monday to tell them you changed your address, give them the new address

3. Call NVC up Tuesday to confirm the address change (you never know with these operators headbonk.gif)

4. Bring an updated I-864 to the interview with your new address (they may not want/need it, but it's good to have your bases covered)

When asking actual questions, please use a question mark. Otherwise you are making statements. No you won't get an RFE, but you also aren't following their instructions. Now they have to photocopy and so you've made their review of the case take longer. The less time, the better, right? Have a great day!

This is the important part. Not sending in photocopies will slow the reviewing officer down, taking time out to review your package, and depending on their personality and how their day is going, this may tick them off. That's why I always suggest using paperclips instead of stapling things as it's the same concept. If you use staples, yeah, they won't checklist you (obviously), but now they have to go and remove the staples (and I don't know about you guys, but I hate removing staples!), thus possibly ticking them off.

You want to make the reviewing officer's job as easy as possible. Easy package = less time to review = possibly happier officer.

I will get to go with him to all the places to get the documents that were to be sent to NVC (this will be fun). Than the medical. First hand experience. I so can't wait. Now if money would just fall out the sky and buy my plane ticket we would be good. Why when you see a good great ticket price there's no money? Or is that just me?
