First it would be helpful I think for you to read the guides they will give you a rough estimate of what to expect

Secondly, I do not have good news for you, once your petition is sent in it is currently taking about 7 months regardless of service center (California or Vermont) before you should expect your NOA2 -or RFE if that is the case :)

Also as far as the recipt goes, I'm guessing this was your noa1. Form I797c I think it's officially called.

As an end note please fill in your timeline

Don't be too concerned this early in the petition. You have some waiting time to do (average of 6 to 8months). Your fiancee should have received the NOA1 (hard copy receipt) in the mail by now. If not, uscis must have cashed the check and she can find the receipt # at the back of that check.

After she gets the case receipt #, she or you can register on the uscis.gov website for your case status updates. If she doesn't have the receipt # then ask her to call uscis' toll free # and ask to speak to tier2 ISO. They will ask for some personal info and hope she can get the receipt # that way.

You both can go to the top of this page and read the "GUIDES" to learn about the next steps in the process and what documents you both should be getting ready. Good luck!

If you read the K-1 guide it answers nearly all of your questions and is very helpful regarding what you need to do and what to expect :-)

Here is the link I was referencing. http://www.visajourney.com/faq/k1faq.htm

It is divided into what the U.S. petitioner needs to do, what the foreign fiance needs to do, process outline, what to do after the marriage, etc.
