Hey all! So I got my NOA 2 today and I'm getting a start on the I-134. I have some questions that I need answered for myself AND my dad who is my cosponsor.

1. For section 3, it asks about the beneficiary's relationship to the the sponsor. What would be the appropriate answer? I was thinking "future son-in-law".

2. Section 11: Should my dad check that he will make specific contributions and explain or should he leave it blank like the example form on the VJ site and put N/A (K1 VISA PROCESS FOR PERMANENT RESIDENCE)? I was going to put that for my I-134 but I'm not sure that would be appropriate for my dad to fill out.

3. In regards to letters from the bank and employers, are they going to be addressed to the embassy or to the sponsor? Any there example letters around? (could have sworn there were some examples here on this site but I can't find them now)

4. Do we need to submit tax returns/W2s for the past years or will the most recent year be sufficient?

I think that's it for now. :)

That works, or daughter's fiance.

2. You should both put the same thing. You could also check intend and leave off the N/A and both simply put ' K1 VISA PROCESS FOR PERMANENT RESIDENCE' on the line.

3. In regards to letters from the bank and employers, are they going to be addressed to the embassy or to the sponsor? Any there example letters around? (could have sworn there were some examples here on this site but I can't find them now)

Basically, your employer letter should state "To whom it may concern: (first name, last name) has been employed full-time with the XYZ Company since 200_ as a (name of your job), and is an employee in good standing with an annual salary of $XXXX. Signed, John Doe, Supervisor (or whatever title)" The letter should be on company letterhead.

4. Do we need to submit tax returns/W2s for the past years or will the most recent year be sufficient?

Only the most recent is needed, unless you think adding the years before will help prove your ability to keep the beneficiary from becoming a public charge.

I think that's it for now. :)

Thank you! That was very helpful!

Thought of another question...

back in august my soon to be father in law bought a house for me and my fiance to live in. My father in law owns it and pays all the bills on it. Considering I have a low income (graduated college in May) and need a co-sponsor as it is, would it help our case to write a letter to the embassy explaining my living situation? I figure maybe it'll help if they see that my fiance and I don't have rent to pay so our savings will last longer since our only real expenses then will be gas, food, and my student loan payment which is $300 a month (i know it's still alot but it could be worse too).

Thoughts????

I'm curious myself...what is this stuff in section 11 about intending/not intending to make contributions ? I will also be using a co-sponsor. Why would you put "k1 visa process for permanent residence" ?? That doesn't seem to answer the question they are asking there. Can someone further explain the section 11 part of the I-134 ? It seems weird to me and I don't know what I and my co-sponsor should put once we are at the point in the process.

You can add any statement you like that you think would help them decide the beneficiary will not become a public charge. However, they may not pay much attention to it. They do not care about people's debt and bills. They mainly care about a stable, ongoing gross income that meets the requirements.

You should put what is on the example form here, or what I mentioned above, which is basically what the example form shows but with 'Intend' checked and no 'N/A' on the line. The I-134 was not made with K-1 visa applicants in mind. It is not even a DoS form. Its purpose is for non-immigrants that will not be staying permanently in the US. You are bringing your fiance(e) to the US to marry and co-mingle finances and all that goes along with marriage. You will not be making certain monthly contributions to them during their temporary stay. This is why it is Not Applicable for someone seeking a K-1. Some people do not like to put N/A, so checking 'Intend' and putting ' K1 VISA PROCESS FOR PERMANENT RESIDENCE' should be accepted by all consulates and make you feel more at ease. You could also state you will be providing all necessary expenses.
