Alla's I-130 petition for the IR-5 visa for her mother was approved, we received the approval notice today. The NOA1 was dated June 25 and the notice date is February 25, 8 months exactly. I never signed in to check the case status and I am still working on her room/bathroom. I think she will probably come sometime this summer. Have to get finished with the project so she has a quiet place.

She is insisting she NEEDS every piece of yarn and fabric stacked up in her room in Ukraine! This is going to resemble the D-Day invasion I think.

Saw your post and thought of this: http://iheartorganizing.blogspot.ca/2012/03/reader-space-crazy-cool-craft-closet.html

Congrats on the NOA2!

Thanks. Her sewing and knitting needs have figured into our plans for her room, which WAS Alla's office. It is on the first floor so it minimizes stairs for her and it was easy to add a bathroom with an unfinished basement underneath to route the plumbing (I am against finished basements!)

But the storage of the craft stuff is still an issue. Who has time to check timelines, I have to figure a way to store 300 cu. feet of yarn and fabric! Momma would just pile it on the tables and sofas and window ledges, Alla would vibrate and explode like the aliens in "Mar's Attacks"!

Hey Gary... Does the IR5 apply to siblings? Of course I'm rushing it a bit since Olga's only been here 3 months this week. We're looking to petition for her sister once Olga's eligible - ie: citizenship. I'm wondering what the timeline is, since what I found says eight years, which seems a bit off.

I understand about Alla's mother wanting to bring all her yarn and stuff. Olga has a bit, but had to leave it home - we ran out of suitcase space. Fortunately... she's discovered quilting and the vast selections available at the fabric stores here, especially on 50% discount days!

The IR5 is for parents. I do not believe she can petition siblings at all (I could be wrong) and if she can it would be a long wait. 8 years sounds about right. A US citizen can petition a spouse, child or parent(s). Single children under age 21 are given the same priority as parents and spouses. Married children or children over age 21 must wait for a visa number. It varies by country.

To be honest I ahve not specifically checked but have read it here or there. Check the "bringing Family Members..." forum

I know, right? Alla has been trying to convince her we actually have that stuff here for much less than in Ukraine. If needed I will stuff it all in canvas bags and ship it by slow boat. My main concern is carrying the stuff out of her 5th floor apartment!

Siblings are direct filing, but on a specific priority date (about 2 - 2.5 years right now).

Really? Only 2 - 2.5 years? I had thought it much longer but never actually looked into it. I have a BIL that would be interested except that I guess his wife would be stuck there for a while.
