while i'm filling the aos papers for my husband did i need to change my lastname to his or it's ok i can change it after cuz i didn't go yet to social security office

If your husband's last name is the one you want to use, then you need to fill in all the forms with your new name. No need to have a SS number to fill in the forms, and even if you have one, it doesn't matter for the AOS if it's your maiden or married name on your SS card.

I was going to ask the same question! I was wondering if I need to put his last name as my last name in the forms; or keep my maiden name. Hope someone can answer this question (I do intend to take his last name and I'm the petitioner.)

I am still using my maiden name because it is my LEGAL name. My ss card driver license, passport still have maiden name. I am the US citizen.

Do you mean that you are the US citizen? Anyway, it doesn't matter, the I-485 should be filled with the new name (if decided to be changed), US spouse or non-US spouse.

The name that you guys put on the AOS form will be the one on your green card. If you put your maiden name, then your green card will have your maiden name, and it costs a certain amount of money to change your green card then.

Your marriage certificate will be your proof of name change.

Yes, I am the US citizen (born), so no green card for me. The AOS would be for him. But I was wondering if I should put his last name as my last name under SPOUSE. I asked the question because I wanted to know if his last name would be considered my LEGAL last name too since we're married. But it seems that's what you're saying since you mention that the marriage certificate will be my proof. Thanks!

I think that's what I'll do since it's the safest anyway

I will change my name in the future since there's no requirement to when to do it!

You can keep your maiden name and use it when you complete the AOS forms. It's okay if you decide to change your last name later.

Sorry, I thought you were the non-US citizen in your couple. It's still the same, if you want to change your last name, use your husband's last name on the form. What matters more to the USCIS is your husband's name anyway.
