MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE

I was married FEB 15, 2011 in CHANGCHUN, JILIN. Government office of the Jilin Province.

I was given the little red marriage book, and a white paper packet of documents related to the book. One says MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE, in Chinese and English translations, then there is NOTARY CERTIFICATE of the document and the translation.

My lawyer was confused and said "this is not the marriage certificate" it is "the marriage book certificate."

Does someone know if these documents are exactly the same, different but serve the same purpose and are effectively the same, or is there any important difference among the two?

I do not believe Changchun gives any other "marriage certificates" then what I described.

Thank you very much.

Welcome to the forum.

Check out this excellent "sticky" thread in the China Regional forum about "Marriage Visa Terms and Definitions";

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/393969-chinese-marriage-visa-terms-and-definitions/

Take a look at several of the recent postings in the same regional forum about the accepted use of "White Book(s)" (AKA Notarial Certificate(s)) by the Guangzhou US consulate for all manner of official documents, such as, Marriageability, Birth, Divorce, Affidavits, etc.

We made extensive use of White Books in our successful K-1 visa endeavor at the Guangzhou US consulate, and subsequent recently successful AOS activity of our family at the Seattle USCIS office.

Consider educating your lawyer by showing him this K-1 Packet 3 document from the Guangzhou consulate, speaking about the types of required documents:

BTW, if you get White Books, get several copies prepared a the same time. It is far easier to obtain them while in China, then to have to attempt to do it long distance. :thumbs:

Good luck.
