Sending Letter to local Representative

I am getting ready to send a letter to Washington DC to my local Representative in regards to my husband's AOS, which has been waiting at the CSC since May 25, 2012. I had sent in a service request on Feb 6, 2013 and got a letter back from them pretty much saying, "oh we'll get to it when we get to it." I think that 10 months is plenty of time to be able to adjudicate our case. :bonk:

What is a good way to phrase the letter? Is there any key words that would make them more likely to take action? I know we have to give them our case number, but do they need my husband's Alien Number? I gave them his SSN as well. Technically it's my husband sending the inquiry because it's his green card application, not mine so It's ok that it's a letter from him, even though he's not a USC, right?

Oh, this is just too frustrating. I wish we would have known it was going to take this long, we didn't apply for AP, and luckily he hasn't needed to leave the country. But it would be nice knowing that we could if we had to!

Thanks for any advice as to how to write this letter!!

Don't waste your time with a letter first. Call his office and ask for the person who coordinates immigration inquiries, and they will tell you exactly what they need.

I will keep everyone informed! Hopefully contacting someone higher up will help! It's too bad that we had to resort to that, but fingers crossed it will help!

Is he adjusting from K1 too? I think it's ridiculous that K1 people seem to have to wait so much longer than everyone else to get our green card, when we did everything the right way and already waited all that time back home, when people adjusting from VWP get their green cards through in 2 months... Makes a totally mockery of the system. Just my frustrated 2 cents, and I only applied in November, you must be going insane! Good luck.

The increasingly longer and longer waiting times for adjudication that is rampant throughout this overworked, outdated immigration system further exemplifies the urgent need for a thorough overhaul of the entire system. Forms are lost, or misfiled; notices are sent out of sequence, or not sent at all…. The severely overtaxed system workers, and the increasingly frustrated customers are not able to get their jobs done efficiently and are not getting the level of service that should be provided. None of us has paid these ever-increasing fees with second-class money, yet all we get is jacked-around with second-class service (if we are lucky).

Scrap the current Kafkaesque system, streamline the processes, hike-up the fees as necessary to make these processes self-sufficient and efficient (if that is what it takes.).

YMMV.

Couldn't agree more! Plus, we have already been scrutinized in the K1 process - gone thru the background checks, had to supply financials, medicals - endless relationship proof. As long as the forms are filled out correctly and supporting documents have been provided - what could possibly take soooo long?

Yes, he is adjusting from a K-1, and that's exactly what I don't get why it's taking so long! Like you said, he's been through all the background checks etc just to even get to this point, and shouldn't they know that? He's had an alien number all this time, it can't be that hard to just plug it into their system and check it out. I think that whole story of "during this time we're conducting background checks, etc" is a bunch of B.S... it's sitting in a file somewhere on a shelf or on someone's desk collecting dust til someone happens to grab it and take the 20 min needed to plug in his info, take a quick glance at the application and approve or deny... Well that's what I think anyway. It might be a much longer, more taxing process for them to adjudicate it but I can't see how it would take 10+ months.

I agree as well, why do we have to go through this process twice for everything just because we are K-1.

Ok, so, CSC is closed until ...?

"On Monday, March 25, 2013, some customers were notified of delivery delays to the USCIS California Service Center (CSC). The delays were the result of a temporary closure of CSC due to plumbing issues. The CSC will remain closed on Tuesday, March, 26, 2013. Deliveries will resume once CSC reopens. We are continuing to monitor the situation and will provide updates as they become available. "
