The most sensible thing you've said in this thread.

It's what I've said all along. This very well might be a phase. This kid might just enjoy it. But there's a chance that it isn't, and that they'll have some tough things to think about when they're old enough to. This seems to be something she truly feels, otherwise why go through with it? What benefits is she gaining from this? It's like the argument that some people choose to be gay. Why would they do that? For all the perks? Please.

But right now, it comes down to wanting to wear girl clothes (whatever those may be) to school and wanting to use a certain bathroom because they feel that's where they belong. This child might get their way, they might not. As long as she has a family that treats her with respect and support, chances are there won't be any mass murders in her future.

Your point is flawed. So is everyone else's who believe that this is just a "whim" - why would children subject themselves to this on purpose?

I have no idea. They're kids. Kids do stupid things and can't make adult rational decisions for themselves, hence my comparison to driving.

Letting your kid dress up as a girl when he's a boy isn't going to turn out well for the kid. Just like giving a kid a six pack and car keys isn't going to turn out well. I'm talking six years old here, not sixteen.

My point is you can't give in to every whim of a 6 year old.

no one is saying you should.

any form of tolerance towards children who may or may not be transgendered equates to saying all children should be allowed to dress and use whatever bathroom they want? a bit of tolerance doesn't equate to gender anarchy. same approach is taken by gun nuts to proposed forms of gun control. you can't mention gun control without the extreme right arguing that gun control equates to ending 2nd amendment rights. you guys are doing the same thing here..

What about girls who dress and act like boys? Or is it only when it's the other way around? Why are "tomboys" generally accepted?

Plenty of people who are transgender and accepted as such grow up to be healthy, happy adults.

Maybe when the 6 year old girl who dresses like a boy and wants to use the boys room and stand up and pee at a urinal it will get equal attention.

there isn't much for the parent, teacher, pediatrician to evaluate. there's plenty for a trained mental health professional to evaluate and plenty of prerequisites and studies to premise further treatment.

relation to op? please do explain..

Point me to a couple studies. Perhaps you could outline a couple tests that I could perform to tell if someone is a boy or a girl. Also, for the record, are you saying that transgendered individuals need treatment?

That's easier said than done. Can't pee standing up unless I want pee dripping down my leg. Not very practical.

um. i don't think there are any tests you could preform. yes, treatment. and i suggest you start with wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender_identity_disorder_in_children

idk. i'd say the problem is with the kids parents coaching him to piss in the wrong bathroom, knowing the kid will be targeted by bullies. then file suit, putting a bigger target on the kid.

Now we're thinkin'!
