Kids need to be kids in elemantary school, they should not worried about whether that thing between their legs is of the right plumbing group.

Agreed, but I don't think feelings should be dismissed due to their age, either. Kids can't help when they think something. And when it comes to gender identity, they generally have these thoughts at a pretty young age.

In an ideal world, we're all comfortable and happy in our own skin. To be a child and not be happy and carefree and not be old enough to fully understand why must be horrible.

I'm not saying their feelings should be dismissed, but they need to be taken from the proper perspective. These are the feelings of a child that probably believes in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy, to put a great amount of stock into their sexual feelings at that age is very premature imo. I don't really even remember the first grade, let alone how I felt sexually.

I remember trying to convince my grandfather that I could drive when I was 6. I'm still slightly pi$$ed he didn't give me the keys and a 6 pack of Budweiser and tell me to have fun. Adults suck!!

Absolutely the same thing. Quality comparison you came up with there.

i think there is a certain level of evaluation that takes place before a student is considered transgendered. gender isn't going to disappear because a percentage of children suffer from gender identity disorder. the slippery slope argument doesn't make the problem go away, we still have to find a way to accommodate the needs of these children.

That sounds good in theory. But if we aren't looking at physical genitalia, hormones, or physical development, there isn't much to evaluate. You can have them talk to a shrink if you want, but if there is no objective, measurable, and repeatable test to determine someone's gender, no one can put their foot down and say, "that's a boy," without opening themselves up to a whole bunch of legal flack.

And for the life of me I can't figure out where the Sandy Hook, Columbine, etc. shooters come from. It has to be the guns.

 Where do you think they come from? Parents who don't lose their minds over their kids wanting to dress a certain way? Please, educate us. You have all the answers.

there isn't much for the parent, teacher, pediatrician to evaluate. there's plenty for a trained mental health professional to evaluate and plenty of prerequisites and studies to premise further treatment.

relation to op? please do explain..

Boys who think they are girls are freaks and end up murdering people. It's that simple! spookyturtle has solved it!

Think about some of the things they have in common. You're the one who comes across as having all the answers.:)

I never claimed to have any answers.

What do they have in common? I didn't know any of the shooters involved in those incidents had gender identity issues. Source?

No, they all just had fvcked up childhood backgrounds and were bullied and outcasts. Of course a boy wearing dresses to school and using the ladies room would have no such issues.

My point is you can't give in to every whim of a 6 year old.

This kid seems quite happy and has a family that seems to love and support them. Maybe they'll grow out of this phase, maybe it's not a phase at all and they'll make the appropriate decisions later on in life when they're old enough to.

Either way, I think they'll be alright, regardless of what bathroom they use. :)

Your point is flawed. So is everyone else's who believe that this is just a "whim" - why would children subject themselves to this on purpose? Why would they choose to be bullied if they could avoid it? This whole issue is far more than wearing a dress to school when you're a boy.

Your comparison is ridiculous and I think you know that. This kid wearing a dress to school isn't putting anyone else's lives at risk as if they were driving a car.

The most sensible thing you've said in this thread.
