Passport and letter from job

Good morning VJers,

Hope all is well.

I have a couple of questions which I am sure might have been answered already but please bear with me

1. My husband's passport is set to expire in July. Is it advisable for him to get a new one now (getting to NVC stage now)?

2. The number of exemption claimed is listed in the employmetn letter from my job. How significant is that since I haven't changed mine to 2?

Yes, DEF get the passport renewed. They need the passport to have at least 6 months validity or else they won't stamp the visa in it, they'll tell you to renew it. My husband's was going to expire in August and we just renewed it. We're also at the NVC stage.

The second question, I have not changed the exemption that I claimed for federal taxes at my job. So i was curious to find out if that would be a problem.

We've already renewed the passport, did that about 2 weeks ago after we got NOA2. His country doesn't issue a whole new passport when renewed, they just stamp in the passport that the validity has been extended to such and such date so the biodata page stayed the same. I don't know how they do it in Haiti but if it's the same thing then you can go ahead and send in the biodata page whenever. If they issue a whole new passport (like they do in the states) then I'd wait to file the IV packet until you have a copy of the passport that he will submit to the embassy on interview day.

Why would the exceptions be a problem? Are you claiming your husband? What would this have to do with visa process? You need to give more information so me (or anyone) can answer your question accurately.

He will have to get a new passport. So waiting it will be.

I don't think the exemptions would be a problem but found it weird that they request that information. It is on the employment letter.

One of my children's passports was set to expire in May so I wound up renewing both of theirs. Our packages had already been sent and subsequently approved by NVC so the bio page that was submitted won't be the same as the one we actually bring. In Canada our passport numbers change each time, too. I am bringing the cancelled passports (which will match what was submitted with IV package) and the new ones (which I will also bring copies of to provide) which are the ones registered for Loomis. I'm hoping we don't run into any problems but I have been told this is pretty standard as many applicants would have passports coming up for renewal at some point during such a lengthy process.
