How to avoid rape!

Freedom to do something does not mean the College should "provide."

I would have a "well regulated" program where students who pass certain guidelines could have the option to carry.

No one suggests handing out revolvers at the Pencil window.

I didn't say anything about providing the weapons or handing them out. I simply asked if your answer to campus violence, such as rape, was to have the students carry weapons. It seems your answer is yes.

Yep we need more armed drunk people carrying a gun. Might make a good theme bar in the south. Enter the bar and get a gun if you're not packing already. For every shot you drink, take a shot at the target behind the bar. Maybe a few chalk outlines on floor. Chairs styled after electric chairs. Buying a round would have a totally different meaning. I think I'm on to a money maker here.

This would work well for college bars too. There's nothing like a first date when the other person knows you're packing! Considering how the great proportion of rapes take place between people who already know each other, it totally works. Totally, totally sexy.

I'd watch a gunfight between fish.

Me too.

i honestly do not know how i've survived so long without a gun.

Me too, but then again I drove without insurance for years by using out-of-state tags.

not with a gun. arming college students is not going to curtail rape. but i guarantee suicides and "accidental" shootings will skyrocket.

It's funny how the Gov't puts full Auto guns in the hands of 18 yr old H.S. grads going in the Military... yet the College level folks will crumble in the presence of a pistol.

So Sad.

So you're one of those uninsured drivers I pay extra insurance for. mad.gif

Ahh don't worry, I never wrecked. Insurance is kinda like Guns...

Only worry-warts carry it.

Yes, those situations are comparable.

that would be a good reason not to allow recruiting officers on high school property. some areas don't.

It makes me sad to see that we talk about how to prevent rape from the victim's standpoint alone rather than teaching men not to rape. Most rapes occur when the victim knows the rapist. Often the victim is coerced against her will by a friend or just someone she knows. Obviously there are precautions all women should take (unfortunately we have to), but it's 2013 and we are still victim-blaming.

That would be because going into the miltary they train you to handle a gun, not before you get the BRM first.

With all of these questions related to men, do we think this is still an issue. Is someone still spreading the message that rape is okay?

We still don't actively teach what rape is, though, which is a problem. Many rapists don't understand when they are raping a women. Guys have sex with girls who are too drunk to fight off, which is a form of rape. Guys coerce girls and take "no" as "try harder" rather than as a refusal. If girls are dressed provocatively in any way then they are "asking for it" because men are incapable of controlling their hormones. Boyfriends and husbands feel entitled to have sex with their girlfriend/wife even is she doesn't want to, which is a form a rape too.

People argue that these are all "grey areas", which is the problem with rape culture. There are no grey areas. If a girl does not want to have sex and you have sex with her, it is a rape. If she is physically incapable of saying no, it is a rape. Same goes for guys who are raped.

This is what we need to actively teach along with proper precautions.

In the context of this thread, however, we are discussing out in public where a person is being physically assaulted. I think we as a society have this down.

In the home, or under the influence defense tactics become limited.
