so a the public safety department of a college made some idiotic remarks and danno decides these remarks are indicative of liberal ideology.

Every stupid thing said is of course a liberal, unless they're a republican politician, then its a slip of the tongue. Welcome to today's critical thinking brought to you by the sheeple who vote Tea Party.

what's kind of hilarious about this is that the college actually thought they were being helpful and giving out brand new information to girls, offering them alternative defenses. colleges in particular should be focusing on the message 'do not rape' not 'how to avoid rape'.

I saw once in this sick Nazi movie, the women used a device made with corks and razor blades to avoid rape.

Sorry, but I can't agree with you that focusing on "do not rape" and not teaching how to avoid rape is a good idea. Just like one violent rapist, who has not had that "do not rape training" and didn't even attend that college, can rape a lot of women. Parents certainly should be teaching their sons that rape is wrong, but they also need to teach their daughters how to avoid becoming a victim. If teaching something was wrong actually worked, there would be no need for locks because everyone would know not to steal.

like i said earlier, being raised in a caring family and in church, i was taught how to avoid being raped. i was taught how to avoid unwanted sexual contact before i even knew what rape was. it didn't stop certain events from taking place in my life, events that no amount of peeing myself could have stopped from happening. the focus needs to be on understanding and dismantling rape culture.

again, the focus of the setting i'm referring to - is college. where the majority of rapes occur by someone the victim knows and trusts.

I wasn't aware of that, but a quick search shows it is so. But I really think to have a real affect on men, teaching rape is wrong has to start much earlier than college to be affective.

Just for fun, here's the thinking of some here to the below statement. Its proof college causes Rape. Its all that damn liberal thinking going on there.

" College women are more at risk for rape and other forms of sexual assault than women the same age but not in college.3 It is estimated that almost 25 percent of college women have been victims of rape or attempted rape since the age of 14.4"

i'm guessing it has more to do with intoxication levels than college alone :D

48% of college drinkers report that ‘drinking to get drunk’ is an important reason for drinking. Almost 1 in 4 drink alcohol 10 or more times a month and 29% report being intoxicated 3 or more times per month.6

The remarks absolutely are indicative of Liberal thinking and legislation..

Is it exhausting being so ridiculous on such a consistent basis? None of your arguments hold any water, ever, and yet you're very passionate about them. It's bizarre and impressive.

I don't disagree that women should be taught to defend themselves in a situation. I just don't know why that's always the focus.

Especially on this forum. When something happens, everyone talks about what the victim should have done. Whether it be rape, murder, whatever. "Well she should have done this. If she had done that, maybe she'd be alive."

Too much victim blaming.

I think you're interpreting this incorrectly. I think that when something bad happens to someone, people need to feel like they could prevent it if it happens to them. It's not so much blaming the victim as trying to convince yourself that you're safe. At least, I never saw it as blaming the victim.

from a female perspective, victim blaming is prevalent and quite often the default response.

I love how all these men are telling women how to avoid being raped. How about men stop raping? Or should it be up to the victim to stop it from happening?

Thankyou!

Rarely do we get to highlight 2 examples of Lib-logic in one thread but thanks to Evylin we are "blessed".

Since that proclamation of *just stop men from raping*

have you given any thought to how we might do that, please share.
