Hello,

Need some help here in TN. My wife finally got her EAD card in the mail yesterday (2/25/13). It has a valid from date of Feb 15, 2013 on it. Much to our surprise, we went to the DMV here so she could take her written test, and we needed to use the EAD as her form of ID because she already got her surname changed (But not on her passport); they said "IM SORRY ITS NOT IN THE SYSTEM?" and they would have to do some kind of verification form for it.

They said it was on immigration and that they havent put it in the system yet. Has this ever happened to anyone before? And how long should we wait till we go back to the DMV?

Yep, that happened to me, when I received my greencard we went to SSA to have my name changed and then we went to DMV that same day only to be told they cannot processed my application because they need to verify my SS # with my new name on it.. What I did was I called SSA 4 business days after i had my name changed and asked them if my new name has been verified and she said 'yes, you can go ahead and continue your application at DMV'.. I suggest you call SSA first to make sure before going there not knowing wether your wife's new name has been verified or not..

She already has her ss card with her married name on it, that wasnt the problem. We needed to use the ead as a "photo id"; that is a requirement to get a state license. She could have used her passport as a photo id, but she already changed her name and its a pain in the butt to replace a foreign passport just for the purpose of a name change. We will just wait a week and go back down there.

Wait for at least 10 business days

10 business days from when the card is valid from 2/15, or when we received the card 2/25?

You just recently received her EAD that's why when DMV pulled up her SSN on their system, it says 'NOT VERIFIED'.. SSA will need to verify her EAD first from USCIS, once that's verified you can go ahead and take the permit test..

Goodluck!

Btw did you went to SSA to inform them that she has her EAD?
