Hi everyone, we are getting married this Thursday after my fiance entered on a K1 and when we applied for the marriage license, the clerk said that it would take 6-8 weeks for us to receive the official marriage certificate from the Registrar's office. We are in Los Angeles county. I asked if we could have it expedited and they said NOPE!

I was wondering if it took THAT long for other people who have gotten married in Los Angeles county as well?

It's definitely going to delay our applying for AOS, since we need to have the marriage certificate in hand first.

I got married in Kern County, CA and despite them saying it would take longer it was available pretty quickly. If you live there, just pop in like 2wks later and see if they have it already registered. It might take a bit longer for LA county if they have more weddings happening tho.

We got married last November at Norwalk's LA County Recorder office. Our certified copy of marriage certificate was received in about 10 days.

Thank you for your answers and the link to the other post. I will ask if we can come back to the registrar's office and pick up the certified marriage certificate the following week. I'm thinking that since we are going to married at the registrar's office, the process should be slightly faster. I can live with 10 days, but 6-8 weeks seems to be way too long for something so simple.

Just a quick update....you were right Sara80, I called the recorder's office this morning and gave them the license number and they found that it was already recorded, so we drove to the office and picked up the certified copy.

The weird thing is that I asked the clerk who was processing our marriage license, is there any way to get it faster than waiting 6-8 weeks for it to be mailed and they told me "no, it takes 6-8 weeks for it to be recorded". Obviously, it's not a true reflection of how things happen. I guess most people are happy to wait the traditional 6-8 weeks for no reason. The other thing is that when we got to the office, the clerk told us that since we had called this morning (30 min on hold, btw) and found out that it was recorded, she was gonna give us the certified copy. So if we hadn't called and simply showed up, we would have been told the same thing?! We just simply smiled and ordered two copies, so we don't have to come back there again! I guess we'll get a third copy in the mail whenever it gets to us.
