Why did you buy a DNA kit? DNA tests are done at the consulate and they will not accept a do it yourself DNA test. It makes since so people don't forge the test.

Hey hon, it may take another week to get a reply from them as to when the collection is scheduled. Make sure you are emailing the right address , which is LagosIV@state.gov.Don't worry they are actually pretty fast when it comes to collecting his sample and sending it back out.Good luck and God bless.

My prayers and thoughts are with you in this very difficult journey. It is hard enough when one has to go through this without the extra stuff. Your case is even more difficult. I don't have a helpful advice but will keep you in my prayers. Good luck! (F)

We are about to go through this process in 3 weeks. A friend on here JUST went through this process. Although, for both of us, it was hubby in the States, kids in Nigeria.

This is the processes she just went through and I will be going through shortly:

The kids had their interview on December 13. They requested a DNA test (as expected). They gave the kids a sheet of paper with the request. The kids scanned the copy to Dad in America. That day he went to one the accredited labs. Dad got his dna test and the lab sent out a kit to Nigeria. Nigeria recieved it a week(ish) later and scheduled the kids for a month later to get their cheeks swabbed at the embassy. Lagos sent the kit back and was in the States within a week. The lab recieved it on a Monday, and by that Friday they had alrady sent the results back to Nigeria. Nigeria recieved the test results within a week.

At this point she was waiting for a couple of weeks or so and then one of the kids noticed that her passport was going to expire pretty soon. So they emailed Lagos with the situation and they said, no problem. The next day they recieved a call saying to bring in the kids passports the next week and they would print up their visas.

From start to finish it was a little over 2 months. I don't know how long it would have taken had they not emailed about the expiring passport, but I know when we hit that 2 month mark, I'll be calling with some excuse as well, trying to get them to move it along.

my friend went through same for five kids (in Nigeria) two years ago. you dn't send a self administered kit, You go to one of the labs accredited and accepted by the consulate. They swab the kid and send the results to lagos. Lagos calls the father and he goes to the consulate's approved Dr to get his swab done and then results are compared and interview decided. My friend's took about four months from testing to interview.

She never said it was a "do it yourself DNA test". She simply said that she paid $1000 for the kit and it arrived to Lagos.

I pray she just meant that she paid the lab and they sent it off to Nigeria.

I think to find a self DNA test that cost $1000 would be hard to find anyway.

GOOD LUCK OP!

Hello Queen-O can you clear up some confusion here. Was this a kit you got. Or did you go through the labs the embassy gave? Has your husband gone to embassy for his swab?

I don't know these DNA things but dang $1000. I am so sorry.

And I sure don't understand why if your son is in US they want DNA test?

Sorry for all the hoops and circles they got you running through. It is well o.
