Don't you guys agree?

No, we pay enough as it is.

Let me ask you this in return, when was the last time you saw your fiance or finacee?

Let me tell you exactly my story:

I met my now husband here in the US, we dated for 4 months in the US.

He went back to his country, proposed marriage after being separated for 4 months. He could not visit the US again because he was denied a visitor visa after working in the US for 2 years.

I visited and married him in his country. I did not file for the spousal visa until 5 monhs later since I wanted to research the pro and cons of living in either country. Every 3 months I visited him until our visa was approved within the 9 months period of time that was explained in the visa process.

My husband arrived in the US, after a a year's time we find ourselves living in different states due to our jobs, we have been married 5 years as of 02/27. We visit each other every other weekend and our love for each other has only grown stronger.

We waited the best part of a year for her process to be completed. As much as we wanted to be together we both agreed that if we could not survive this part of our journey, then we had no business being together in the first place.

While I can understand your sentiment, I have to disagree as well. Immigration should never be a place for financial que jumping. It would be lovely if they could speed it up but at what cost, hand a few extra $ and boom you are through, meanwhile those that can't afford it are stuck waiting in line.

Trust me, the wait sucks, that doesn't change for anyone. It might help others that can visit more often but that doesn't mean it is an easier wait for them, not knowing what is going on, where their application stands...

Hang in there, it will happen. (fcourse I say this having not submitted yet, that will come soon)

Good question. Looking at some of the responses, I am baffled. Actually, there are other Visas that can be expedited through Premium Processing. Why should the K-1 be treated any differently? It already is not a fair process. The applications are not being done in order of receipt. Some Centers move faster than others at any given period. Some countries / situations are approved for an expedite, with no additional cost.

We would have gladly paid to make this process go quicker. Premium process for a premium price. At least give us an OPTION.

I was going to agree, but then I read the reply:

"Immigration should NEVER be a system where the people who can afford to pay more get better service."

And I'll have to agree.

But here are my thoughts on the K1 visa process:

Why not treat it like a Tourist visa?

Anyone, anywhere in the world, can apply for a tourist visa to the USA and get it the same day or within a week at most.

Since the fiancee is admitted into the USA for 90 days and - if not married by the 90th day - she's required to leave; why not treat her as a trourist? If the USC marries her, her visa is extended another 90 days and a Permanent Resident application starts to be processed. Sure, there are some technicalities that would need to be worked out (for example: before entering the US, make sure she's free to marry and has no criminal past etc...), but all this be streamlined greatly.

That's exactly what I have always thought! Why can't my wife enter as tourist can, and wait out the crazy process alongside myself!

No, I don't like the idea...it's not fair and only caters for the rich!! Money should not be the power in this matter!

No, we pay enough as it is.

It is all relative. The few hundred dollars paid for the Petition is nothing compared to what I have lost already . ( I said I, because it is my opinion - but I assume most would agree about the emotional/mental/ spiritual / and even physical affects this process has on "us.") We should at least have an OPTION to pay extra to expedite this Visa. The length it takes is way too long.

You're baffled because not everybody likes the thought of immigration being yet another thing that money can simply buy? Agreed it should be first come, first served. But by no means should it be "the faster service goes to the highest bidder" ... that's ridiculous.

I think some people are very, very dramatic. Yes, it sucks being away from your loved one. We've all experienced it. We've all gone the months without seeing them. If I can't mentally, emotionally, physically handle being away from my SO for a few months if it means we'll spend the rest of our lives together, then there's something very wrong.
