Of course, to add more fuel to this annoying process, my fiancee and I have lived in various developing countries for more than 1 year. It is my understanding that HE ONLY has to obtain police clearance reports from the countries that he has stayed in for more than 1 year, and I do not need to provide any police clearance, correct? Both of us have no records, but the problem is getting those records. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to obtain a police clearance record in a country that he is not a citizen of and doesn't currently reside in? We still have friends in Egypt, but can he obtain a police clearance record without having to go back to the country with whom is requesting the clearance? I believe that we read that the USCIS or other body provides you with a letter to give to the police, but is it best to start just trying to obtain this clearance while waiting for the documents to be processed? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You should be able to go to your own country Embassy's website to obtain the form, it is either called 'Certificate of good conduct' or 'Letter of good conduct'. That is good enough and works like a police report.

Both of you have to provide the police report. Just go to the country's Embassy or Consulate website and download the form, fill it out and send it away!

From my understanding it is if you stayed in a country 6 months or more. Here is a link to the official US government website and it will tell you if the police clearance is available to you or not. If it isn't available, you MUST print it out as proof because they may not necessarily know at your interview.

Just click on the country in question and scroll down until you see police clearance/certificate. Good luck

I am not sure about Egypt but I went through the process of getting a few police reports from European countries. In some cases, I could apply through the embassy in my current country of residence, other requests were mailed directly to the designated authorities issuing such reports in each country.

The US citizen does not need to do this. The US citizen is not applying for a visa and police certificates are not needed for the petition.

Get after those certificates NOW. RIGHT NOW. They are valid for one year no matter what they say on them and in some countries it can take months for a non-citizen to get one. If you received them today they will still be valid when you do your interview.

If they are not printed in English, Russian or Ukrainian they will need to be translated to ENGLISH, so give yourself time.

Hello,

I am a bit confused and hoping any of you may be able to help me. I am a US Citizen and my fiancee is a Japanese citizen. From around the age of 16-17 she spent more than 6 months in Australia as an English student. This means that she will need an Australian police report. According to this website linked earlier:http://travel.state..../fees_3272.html the fee would be "NONE", but as I kept clicking on what seems to be the correct links it led me to the Australian Federal Police Website: http://www.afp.gov.au/

From there I clicked on "National Police Checks" and then "National Police Certificates". It says that there is a $42.00 fee. I don't care about paying the fee, I'm just wanting to make sure that I am trying to ask for the right documents since the US government said there would be no fee. Are the National Police Certificates mentioned on the Australian website what my fiancee will have to take with her to her visa interview?
