Got my interview next week. Fixing papers through my spouse who is a USC.

So the pastor who married us wrote a letter we can show to the immigration officer stating that our marriage is legit. Also, both my parents, and my wife's parents want to write letters testifying of this fact. Now I saw someone else in this forum that got a RFE asking for proof of citizenship for all those who write these type of letters. Is that true? I didn't know we need proof of citizenship for the affidavits.

Please let me know if that's true so I can ask my pastor for his birth certificate. Such a pain!

Maybe its better to not present the letters at all?

Evidence Received: January 15, 2013 (status updated on USCIS website)
Testing and Interview: January 25, 2013 (status updated on USCIS website - now just waiting for the interview date)
Interview date set: January 30, 2013 (our interview was set for March 6th, 2013)
EAD Approved: February 12, 2013
EAD Card Production: February 15, 2013
EAD Card Mailed: February 19, 2013
EAD Card Rec'd: February 23, 2013
Applied for S.S.No.: February 25, 2013
Interview and Approval: March 6, 2013
Green Card Rec'd: March 14, 2013
Applied for new S.S. card: March 15, 2013
Rec'd S.S. card: March 22, 2013

Sent I-751: January 10, 2015

No, anyone can write an affidavit. Joe Bloggs from Afghanistan can write you an affidavit, they do not have to be a USC.

We used a couple of affidavits, one from my Non-US family.

The USC does however have to provide proof of their US citizenship.

Edit: Well I just read that thread... That is very odd. Maybe I am wrong... I will watch this topic and hope you get the answers you are looking for.

I agree that it is odd.

The persons writing the affidavits have to declare their names, address, contact and citizenship, but I didn't think they needed to provide proof of citizenship.

Adjustment of Status from H-1B, Family-Based
07/26/2012 - 10/18/2012: 85 Days from Application Received to GC Received.
Removal of Conditions
07/22/2014 - 11/14/2014: 116 Days from Application Received to GC Received.
Naturalization
02/03/2016 - 05/31/2016 : 119 Days from Application Received to Oath Ceremony.

I am a United States citizen!

Yeah, that's why I think its weird! Oh well....I have a few affidavits in case the IO wants to see them. I'll let you guys know if he requires proof of citizenship. Maybe its a new thing.

I'm telling you this is what happened to me! Doesn't mean it's going to happen to you!

I got an rfe for that! I had plenty of evidence, I didn't even need the affidavits!

As long as you are not in LA and get the same IO I had, don't worry about it!
