How much did your previous marriage/relationship affect who you are with now?

Not to get into ex-bashing here or anything but I think some of the things that attracted me to Luz so much are because of the way my ex was. My ex was very up-tight, judgemental and generally not a very nice person to be around. Luz is the opposite of her. Luz is a free-spirit, accepts me for who I am and the sweetest person I have ever known.

So I would say yes, my ex did affect who I was looking for in a wife. I didn't want a repeat of the hell I went through before.

Amen to that Gary!

With my ex-wife, we really had very little in common. I was 18 when we met...she was 19 and had a 4 month old son. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. That isn't to say that I didn't love her - I gave to the relationship the best I could. I really loved her, but the relationship was destructive and killing me inside. I was very optimistic and naive to think that as long as two reasonably good people love each other, it will last, but it takes more than that. :star:

This is hard for me to put into words. I cannot say that my previous marriage of 25 years affected who I searched for or finally ended up with. But I can say that it helped me to know that this relationship is the real thing. Everything with Fely, the caring, the pampering, the attentiveness, the sex, everything, does not even compare with how it was with my first wife. What I mistaked for love was obviously just friendship, and now, I know for sure with Fely and I it is the real thing. Pure bliss.
