Hi all,

I am preparing to send my DS-230 for CR-1. (I am the beneficiary, and I am in Ireland). I want to double check what exactly I need to send for this.

I plan to include only the passport biographic page photocopy as supporting document (i.e. one page with my photo and the other page with my maiden name etc.). Is that sufficient?

Thanks,

Dibley

If you are only required to submit part 1 of the DS-230, then all you need to submit is a photocopy of the biograpics page/s of your passport. Check the 'Instructions for Immigrant Application' appropriate to your country HERE

I want to send in a DS-230 application as soon as possible but my wife is still waiting for her passport to be processed in the Dominican. I called and the NVC said I could write a letter stating we don't have it yet but it will be ready prior to our appointment. Any one else have any experience doing this? :help:

Another question....I know the paperwork says DON'T SEND DS230 UNTIL PACKET IS GENERATED AS IT WILL CAUSE DELAYS....but will it or is it just they want us to play their game and wait and wait and wait.... :help:

You need to wait because they generate a page with a barcode that you have to mail back to the NVC with the DS-230 part I filled out. If you send them the form in advance without this, they will send it back and this will definetely delay everything.

Until the DS-230 has been generated i.e. in their system, they will not acknowledge the receipt of a DS-230 if you send it in earlier. There was a member recently who did this and it was returned to them.

One can submit the DS-230 and anything other forms etc to NVC without waiting to receive it in hand. This is done using James Shortcuts as soon as one knows that NVC has generated it.

If you send the DS 230 before NVC generates it, then they will return it to you. So send only after it is generated.

Thanks for that information. I just wanted to be sure. This helps a lot.

How did you get through the USCIS without a passport? Didn't you have to send a copy of hers?

With DS 230 part I, they want the foreign alien spouse's (beneficiary) passport biographical information pages' photocopy. NVC does not need the beneficiary's passport biographical information photocopy pages until this stage. USCIS never asks for beneficiary's passport pages. But the beneficiary must take the passport with him/her during the interview at the Embassy/Consulate.
