I would certainly encourage you to file the petition yourself and without a lawyer. Go to the home page of VJ, then the "Guides" section and look for the instructions for filing the I-130. In that information will be the links to the USCIS website where you will download the I-130 form and it's instructions. Lots of people here have done this and will be more than happy to assist you and answer any questions you might have. The process isn't difficult. You just need to make sure you follow the instructions to the "L"etter and include all documentation and evidence asked for.

Best of luck! And, remember lots of people here on VJ have done the I-130 process and have been successful. All you will need to do is ask questions. Hiring a lawyer for this process is like hiring a guide to show you how to do the laundry when all you have to do is read the instructions on the back of the laundry detergent box.
