If you don't have a big smile, you should be good. If you doubt it will be accepted... just take another pic. you can even do it yourself and use the online tool, so it will be cheap : http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/370252-how-to-make-us-passport-photos-very-cheap/ (this is just an example, there are so many examples of different tools to use on VJ, just search it)

Btw: this is the K-1 forum, not the CR1.

Good luck to you!

Good luck in your visa journey!

From the day we sent I-129F to the day I recieved my K-1: Exactly 9 months

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I think standardly the passport photos can't have smiles because the distort the face for facial recognition purposes.

I don't think the G325a photos are used that way, but I could be wrong.

I doubt it's a problem at this stage but there's no such thing as a G325a photo. The passport style photo submitted at the petition stage has nothing whatsoever to do with the G325a. This is a common misconception that grows out of the fact that the photos appear in the evidence list, directly following the mention of the G325a forms. The photos are for the case file.

USCIS accepts the wrong size all the time with no problem. Yes, go back and get about 8 or 9 new ones before you go to the medical as several will be needed at that stage. One of those will be used on the visa itself.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

Smiling is neutral as long as you aren't like this:

You can smile.

Since when? Every time at biometrics they remind me not to smile. Here are the instructions: http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/visaphotoreq/visaphotoreq_5334.html

Passport yes, visa no. http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/visaphotoreq/visaphotoreq_5334.html

I have my photos made, but fate of fates I am smiling, while I see in the instructions now it says neutral facial expression. Has anyone every caught flack for smiling? Is it worth the hour trip to have new photos made?

I know of a few people, but then no-one really talks about their photos like that... Send them and see what happens. That way you haven't wasted a trip.

Do not worry. Just keep smiling when you go for an interview and all will be well.

Since always. They are asking for US passport-style photos and smiling is allowed. The examples show people smiling. It must be a "natural" smile and not a goofy grin, like KDH demonstrated.

My husband smiled for his GCs, I smiled for my passports. The photos we sent in for AOS had smiles. I have heard of biometric people saying no smiling, but I think they are being overzealous.

Your link just says "neutral" expression without specifically saying no smiling or defining what that is. The photo examples linked on your page show smiling (see the blond lady).

This seems like the sort of argument over minutia that can go on and on, so I won't reply as I have said my piece. If you ever find anyone whose photos were rejected for smiling, let me know. I'd be interested.

In Canada, you cannot smile for your passport or drivers photos. They have and will always be rejected for such. IMHO a Neutral face expression is exactly that, one that is neutral, one that is not showing emotion. Smiling indicates an emotion.
