Did someone mention not liking eating things that look at you? This is Lapu Lapu, a small colorful grouper when alive.

Fish is different for some reason. I could probably do fish. The only thing that kind of makes me anxious about eating fish like that is the bones. I always miss one while picking them out and choke. :bonk:

Speaking of fish... One of my favorite things to do here is go with my husband to the market. It's a big, open building with a ton of stalls, and I always zoom right over to the seafood area to look at all the enormous fish and weird sea critters they bring in. You see some really wild things!

USC who lived in Manabí, Ecuador with hubby from 2009 - 2013. Hubby became a naturalized American citizen in August 2016. Currently living together in northern Virginia.

ah are we talking to Mrs Harvey?

Your very enthusiastic husband was telling us how he would love to take you to NYC and eat his way thru the town. he said he doesn't mind the crowds, and that he thinks that the crowds are really cool........:) He also mentioned something about Phantom of the Opera, front row center......

He is such a sweetheart, isn't he? I handle crowds better than he does but I'll stay away if possible. I'd love to try that little hole-on-the-wall restaurant in Brooklyn though, so we will keep you posted ;)

Then a little coconut wine to wash it down. Cost about me 50 cents for half a gallon. I finally remembered to take a picture when it was just about all gone. BTW that is the floor in this house.

Now this is real cool...

Oh come on dude..lol

Now "Andrew Zimmern has nuttin on us" should have covered that fact that viewer discretion is advised..

Now you've removed the "culture shock" factor out of the thread lol

Besides that, I think a forum of such diverse international background should be able to handle this just fine.....

Yes Mr Harvey is a good man.....wanting to impress you by going to The Four Seasons in NY and plastering the town afterwards :)

I've been to China, Japan, and Vietnam, but still the strangest food I've ever eaten was "Brown Bread", which is a common food among the older generation in New England. I just couldn't get used to the fact that this bread comes in a can.

this is certainly interesting.

Bagoong how could I have forgotten this one. This is fermented larval shrimp paste. There's also a version which is sautéed. The first type smells bad, the sautéed type could gag a skunk. It's used as a flavoring to different foods. I mainly use it on green mango. It's the only Filipino food my dog refuses to eat and she'll even eat green mango. She gets one whiff and backs away lol.

Yes rather salty. I think of it as pink in color, the sauteed stuff is dark brown. Dug a picture up already on the internet.
