Underestimated Time for NOA2

A bittersweet day yesterday...

The good news is: we received a text and email (NOA1?) from the Dallas Lockbox that our I-129F has been received and is being forwarded to the Vermont Service Center.

The bad news is: we were told by a lawyer that the whole K-1 visa process would take 5-6 months, but now it looks like it could take that long just to receive our NOA2...

Clearly, we should've considered this more carefully. We checked the processing times on the USCIS website, but we confused them with the total time to receive the visa.

Looks like our plans for August will have to be plans for November. Does this seem more realistic? Anyone have a more optimistic view to counter our sudden pessimism?

Misled and misunderstood...

I'm not sure where you got your original information, the USCIS website has always stated that VSC processing time is about 7 months. Right now their new estimate is 6.1 months, which is a big improvement considering CSC went from five months to now over 7.

Well to be honest, about 7 months for NOA2 is likely, then there's the time for interview, and then... does Turkey do AP? If so you could be adding several months, in some cases years, to the process.

I hope you didn't hire that lawyer.

I would not make any plans at all under any circumstances. Count on the whole process taking at least 10 months until you can come to America, but understand that it is very likely that it could take longer.

Yes they do AP but usually engaged couple don't go thru it. I found out more of the AP in Turkey is Marriage couple.

Yeah, sorry for any confusion. We understand that the VSC processing time is in the 6-7 month range at this point. We were just mistaken originally in thinking that this was the total time it would take to acquire a K-1 visa.

Fortunately, we didn't hire the stupid lawyer that gave us this false impression. Also, it doesn't seem like there are any faster alternatives, so I suppose we should just be grateful that the process is officially underway now.

10 months apart just sounds brutal. Is there reason we can't visit each other while our visa application is pending approval? Thanks for all the responses and estimates so far. Just trying to recover from this shock somehow.

Depends on the beneficiaries ability to get a tourist visa, which unless Turkey is part of the VWP I wouldn't hold my breath.

They wouldn't give my wife a visa but you may be luckier then us.

USCIS doesn't care about UK, that's easy (as well as Australia, Western European countries) etc.

I travelled to the USA in January while my I-129F is pending and I'm going back in March. So you are allowed to visit while the visa is pending.

This is exaclty what at least two lawyers, one person who supposedly has completed this process for others and someone else who supposedly had a helping hand at the centers told me, oh he'll be here in three to six months, they said. liars. I was doing my own research at the time as well and I didnt trust them much, as I was right in doing so. But you get your hopes up regardless, what if it does actually get done in three months, how cool would that be, and you make plans and you daydream about all the things youre going to do places youre going to go etc. its bad enough you have to wait more than six months, its worse when you get a little hopeful for a shorter time and find out otherwise and crash with all of your plans and dreams. Why they would say that I have no idea. pissing me off.
