The NRA said these things? I thought it was just Alex Jones.

Actually I see NRA members making pretty outlandish comments on Facebook every day. Just now I saw a post with a picture of a man aiming at the viewer talking 300 Spartans resisting the Persians, and 80 million gun owners will resist even harder. All day long I see gun owners liking, reposting and making much more extremist comments under these types of images. It's no wonder those that are afraid of guns are getting more, not less afraid of gun owners. Great way to come off as sane and responsible gun owners.

If I wanted to turn my neighbor into a criminal for no reason other than political expediency and he could walk over and kick my a$$ for doing it I believe I would be a little afraid to do it. Perhaps gun owners who have done nothing wrong should be left alone.

Otherwise those that are afraid of guns are getting more, not less afraid of gun owners sounds paranoid to me.

Nothing wrong other than now acting like a bunch of drunken teenager boys on a testosterone fueled back slapping ooh rah fest. It's not even the majority of them, but its enough of them that the left that is in the majority is going to demand more restrictions on guns and convince the middle ground it's needed. It's been a while since I've owned a firearm now, my speargun scares people more than a firearm does any way, but I'd like to be able to get a firearm again with hassle some day. And these idiots with their ooh rah back slapping middle school scream fest are probably going to flock that up.

As if the current administration gave a chit about community safety or enforcing gun laws! LOL

Data from the National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS)found in 2010, of 6 million Americans who applied to buy a gun, less than 2 percent -- or 76,000 -- were denied. Of those, the ATF referred 4,732 cases for prosecution. Of them, just 44 were prosecuted, and only 13 were punished for lying or buying a gun illegally.

"If the prosecution of people lying on forms is really a priority for the president, then all he has to do is say, 'I want my federal law enforcement officials to prosecute these kinds of cases,'" former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales told Fox News. "Obviously there is a different level of priority given to these type of crimes in this administration compared with other administrations."

Justice Department sources argue the attorney general has finite resources. DOJ prefers to prosecute prohibited persons who actually obtain guns illegally, who've gotten around the background check system, rather than just those who just lie on the form, which is also a crime.

A source also said so-called "lie and try" cases have little jury appeal. They are essentially about lying on a form where the person was ultimately denied the ability to purchase the gun. Juries, in these cases, have a tendency to question whether any harm was done, because the individual did not get the gun.

Prosecutions for making a false statement when buying a gun are down 29 percent from five years ago, while prosecutions for illegal possession are down 14 percent, according to federal data. Penalties are also light. Data compiled by the U.S. attorney's office shows a third of those charged with gun crimes serve no jail at all, and those who do typically only serve one to four years of a possible 10-year sentence for lying or illegally possessing a firearm.

I can understand your view point but when the ruling govt officials make it their top priority and without understanding what are the real cause of the violence at school or public gathering they just want to blame it on gun and restrict gun ownership.

The funny thing was in couple of those instances the shooters were not legal owners anyway, they had stolen the weapon so how was govts restricting policy was going to help?

The govt who is pushing so hard on ban on assult weapon (mainly AR 15) and they claiming it to be weapon used at school shooting did not even bother to come out clean and let public know AR 15 was never used in the shooting.

Biden taking advice from Bloomberg..... it is well known that he would not want anyone else to own the gun other than his own guards.

You just can't stop lying, can you? You parroted this paranoid conspiracy claim from the gun nuts before and I debunked it here before. So either you can't read, or you can't comprehend or both or you're one of the idiotic conspiracy nuts. Take your pick. The AR-15 was not only the primary weapon used to massacre these children and their teachers - it was the only weapon used to do the slaughtering. Not sure why you think it's cool to add insult to injury spreading your ridiculous conspiracy chit about what happened there. Why do you gun nuts have to be such lying sacks of #######?

All 26 of Lanza's victims were shot with the .223-caliber semi-automatic rifle, said Vance, who bristled at claims to the contrary during an interview with Hearst Connecticut Newspapers.

"It's all these conspiracy theorists that are trying to mucky up the waters," said Vance, the longtime state police spokesman.

Multiple Second Amendment and gun owner websites have attempted to cast doubts on whether the Bushmaster XM-15, a type of AR-15 rifle that is currently legal, was used in the Dec. 14 carnage done by Lanza.
