So I'm currently waiting for NOA2, but I'm starting to sort out some questions out for the next step. The following regards the financial aspect of sponsoring your fiancee, and using a co-sponsor.

I am borderline impoverished in NY (according to the income guidelines per household member). My last few years of income is always right around (above or below) the necessary income in order to sponsor my fiancee. I've read multiple threads that recommend the sponsor in this situation seek a co-sponsor "just to be safe", in which case I've asked my mother to co-sponsor us. Her income exceeds the guideline for our household, plus my fiancee. There is one question that arose in our discussion. Although her income exceeds the guideline for our household, she is currently in the process of applying for habitat for humanity. While this have any negative affects on the perception of our application and possibly influence the decision for my fiancee to receive her K1 visa ?

No affect. They do not know, do not care. If she meets or exceeds the guidelines they do not care where she lives. Habitat for Humanity is a private organization and is not a federal "means tested benefit" in any case.

When you say "our" household. Does your mother live with you ? Does she have other children. Her income would have to be enough for HER household plus your fiance ( plus any other immigrant she may have sponsored )

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Not quite sure why youre referring to your mothers household as "our" household. (unless you are part of her household?) Does your mother claim you as a dependent? If not- you are not part of her household. For her co-sponsor form she would only claim herself, her spouse if she is married and any dependents + the immigrant.

I do not believe there is anything on the 864 about Habitat for Humanity. I really dont see how that would fit in anywhere or how it would even come up (?) They dont ask about where you live (not specifically speaking) They dont ask what your monthly rental/mortgage payment is or who it is to.
