My wife got the stamp and a job prior to getting her green card. USCIS was aware she was working when we interviewed. If you can get the stamp you can indeed work.

there was a memo circulated by USCIS that started the issuing of the EAD stamp for a short period of time. The memo was supposed to clarify that K-1 immigrants were allowed to get an SSN when they arrived, there had been some confusion on the issue. But the poorly written memo made it appear they were allowed to work. A follow up memo closed down that error. I've seen links to both memos on the USCIS web site, but never saved the links. In any case this is where much of this confusion comes from. But for a shirt while K-1 arrivals were allowed to work on arrival.

I'm only saying they should not have more privileges than those who have immigrated the legal way. My husband would have been happy to have any color of stripe on his driver's license if it meant he could drive after entering on his k1 visa.

That's their problem. Have them take it up with their parents. I'll say it for the 100th time. Children suffer all the time for the bad decisions of their parents. That's life.

Actually it's our country's problem if we start spending the money to round them up. Will we lock them up? Dump them on the other side if the border? Not that the country currently even has even close to resources to find and detain them. And will soon have even less when the new cuts are in.

I don't know what the answer is, but I know what it isn't. The answer is not making illegal immigrants magically legal. That just encourages more illegal behavior.

I think these people are getting their drivers licenses because they're getting EADs. And I agree, I don't like the idea they're getting processed ahead of those currently in line.

I don't think they are getting EAD's because if they were then they would have legal status and no need for the pink stripe

What encourages illegal immigrants is an economy that hires them. We would not have 12 million illegals if business and people were not hiring them.

An EAD does not give them legal resident status any more than it makes a K-1 a legal resident. These people will currently be in that limbo land the K-1 spends time in until the K-1 gets the green card. But unlike the K-1, they have no idea if they will get out if it. Hence the pink stripe to clearly identify them in the mentioned state. I would expect K-1 EAD license holders to get the same treatment there.

I agree that something needs to be done about businesses and people hiring illegal immigrants, but that's really a cop out. Illegal behavior is illegal behavior. You don't reward it.

from what I researched an undocumented alien can not apply for an EAD at this time. And, they are not in the same limbo land as K1 because K1 visa holders have legal presence as long as they are undergoing AOS after the I94 expires. The people who the "pink strip" would apply to do not have legal presence. IMHO they are lucky they can get a driver's license when a k1 visa holder can't - that is what irks me.
