Ok. I am finalizing the AOS application for my wife. Where can I get the Nonimmigrant Visa Number? I am looking at Visa page of her passport and there are so many numbers. Is it her A Number? I also saw a series of numbers that start with a F followed by seven numbers. Is that it? There is also the Control Number.

Thanks Tin! That's the number that starts with the letter F. It is on the bottom right and Across the Alien # :)

DO NOT trust the A number on the visa, it is often wrong. Trust ONLY the A# on the NOA2 above the beneficiaries name.

As I stated above, do not trust the A# on the visa, only on the NOA2.

But yes, the non-immigrant visa number is the red number.

So far, we've been lucky. I've used that same # to all of the forms for AOS. Thanks for the heads up though

Hello everyone,

Just need a little clarification. I'm a K1 Visa holder, just got married, and am filling out my AOS forms.

I-765, I-485, and I-864 ask for an A number... is this the 9 digit number that begins with A on the visa page of my passport? And G-325A also asks for just a "file number" in the top right corner... is it the same thing?

BTW, I can't see anything on my NOA2 that might be my A number to see if they match!

Thanks in advance!

It's above the beneficiaries name on the NOA2 (petition approval). The one written anywhere else is often wrong due to human error. If you write a different number you risk your file being split into the 2 alien numbers (has happened before) and it really slows things down while they later "marry" the 2 cases.

And yes, the "file number" on the G-325A refers to the A number (that's why there's an A at the start).

^^ Thank you!!

I must be going crazy though... I CANNOT find the A number on my NOA2. All we received in the mail was an approval letter that has my MTL and WAC numbers on it (which I presented as my NOA2 at the consulate, successfully). No number beginning with A! Other than that, I received an appointment confirmation email from the US consulate in Montreal that doesn't have an A number anywhere either.

I'll just have to use the one in my passport... thanks for your help :)

That's the NVC letter... the USC should have received a "petition approval" which we call NOA2. It basically says your petition has been approved and has been forwarded to NVC. They you get one from NVC with your countries code on it (mine was SYD) and mine had a barcode.

You seriously didn't get the NOA2? Because you need that for AOS. Sometimes the NVC letter works, and sometimes people need to pay the crazy $200+ fee to get a replacement.

**Edit - what do you mean you submitted it as your NOA2 successfully at the consulate? They consulate doesn't usually ask for the NOA2, but they sometimes want the NVC letter... which is what you showed them.

The NOA2 is called I-797, Notice of action in the top right of the paper.

There is a box on the right side of the paper that says "Beneficiary" Directly to the right of "Beneficiary" is the A number. Your fiance's name is right below that.

I have the I-797C! I SEE THE BOX. It says "USCIS Alien Number" and is blank.

Sorry- must have been thinking of the NVC letter. They needed to see it to get into the building.

That's odd. In our beneficiary box it just shows the A number. Doesn't actually have it labelled. Here's what ours looks like. I erased our info, but the number continues after the A
