Hi,

I have question about the SSN.

When I filled my DS-230 form, I checked "Yes" on both 43a and 43b.

I admitted to USA 1 week ago, so when will I get my SSN card exactly?

Is there any required action should be done from my side? or just wait for them to mail my card to my address?

Is there anyone who experienced this situation? How much did you wait to get your card?

My visa is F22.

You need to go to the Social Security office and apply after you have been here 2 weeks. Take your passport and birth certificate with you.

exactly, the ssn is not gonna show up in your mail box, you need to go and apply for it. You also need to fill a small form with your personal info...you can find it here or at ssn website. My ssn took a month to arrived. GOOD LUCK AND WELCOME

My visa is F22.

You will receive your SSN card via mail to the address that you wrote on your DS-230 form.

Normally, you'll receive it within 30 days after POE. Same with your green card.

I was browsing SSA website, and I found this:

ssa.gov/ssnvisa/whatyou_need.htm

It says that I should get my card within 3 weeks of being admitted to USA.

Also, I don't have birth certificate because I was born in Syria, and we don't have birth certificates in Syria.

However, we have a special document that indicates the name and the date of birth, but I already give the embassy a copy, and I can't get another copy because it's impossible to go to Syria now due the political situations.

So at the moment I have only the passport and Syrian driver's license.

Did they assign you a SSN card without visiting SSA or doing any action from your side?

Yes you will be assigned SSN and given SSN card without any action from your side since you answered (both) YES on the DS-230 form.

Anyway, its not (yet) me, I'm referring to my husband and our children's experience with their SSN and GC. They were petitioned under F2B category. Their SSN cards and GCs were delivered to their home address 30 days after POE. :innocent:

Some people get it earlier, depending on which state you are in.

feli114 and Andrea&Henry were both under K1 (fiancee visa) so its standard procedure for them to go and apply for SSN AFTER they got married.

As F2A/F2B, we have the option to automatically get an SSN and SSN card after POE via the DS-230 form, even without going to an SS office.

Thank you, and by the way, congratulations on getting your husband and your children's SSN and GC.

I'll be waiting for my SSN, and I hope I get it as soon as possible :)
