I have a question. I just want to clarify something. can I start to work after my adjustment of status approval or getting the green card for 2 years? so far that's what I understand and correct me if I'm wrong please. I just really need an answer to this confusion. thank you

You may work after receiving your Permanent Resident card, or an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) card.

You may not work with just an AOS approval.

really? I need an EAD and not just AOS approval? I thought it is that's why I didn't apply for EAD.

uuggghh now it will take for u to get your GC to start working. you file it w/AOS it's free anyways. your need hard copy to show your employer(prospect) that your not illegal immigrant and allowed by law to work.

The longer it takes to happen the more you'll appreciate it when it does!

You do not necessarily need an EAD. However, some people opt to apply for one, so they can work temporarily while waiting for their green card.

If you have a successful AOS interview and are subsequently approved, you still may not work. The AOS approval is not sufficient proof of permanent residency. You need to wait for your green card.

so you mean to say, this temporary thing for 2 years is not enough evidence that I can work here in USA?

Uh, what is this temporary thing for 2 years you are referring to?

If you are referring to the 2-year conditional green card, it IS enough evidence for you to start working. However, you NEED to wait for the actual green card to arrive in the mail.

An AOS approval IS NOT sufficient to start working.

yes I am referring to the 2 year conditional residency. I know that I have to wait for the physical green card for me to work but last night was thinking about this so much to the point that I got confused. so here's another question, can I work after I get my 2 year conditional residency approval or the 2 year green card in my hand without EAD ? I want to clarify in my head. I want to make every action that I'll make in future would be all correct without violating any law.

The GC give you the right to work and travel by itself.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

does that mean I can work with the conditional 2 year green card in my hand? I just don't wanna mess anything because my husband trusted me to read information before we mailed my AOS. I might be branded as irresponsible if I missed something that is very important. unsure.gif Also I just don't want to be a burden, at least that's how I think by not having any job currently for waiting for my 2 year conditional green card.

You can work either with your EAD or either with your green card.

If you didn't apply for the EAD (which is faster to receive compared to the green card), so you need to wait for the conditional 2- year green card.

You need also a social security number.
