The Indian Army in the Valley is part of a catch-22 that will never resolve. I love the fact all of this is going down during the "off season" because at the end of the day pilgrim and tourist dollars are much more important than this perpetual game of cat and mouse - can't have empty houseboats during the summer!

The army terrorizes Kashmir - just as some [not ALL] Kashmiris openly talk about/plot and scheme/try and sometimes succeed in terrorizing the rest of India. Even the "kindest" estimates show there are 40,000 missing men - gone, poof, not to be heard from again - how many are bystanders who saw ####### go down with separatists and the army and it was just "easier" to make sure there was no one to talk? Mass graves are found in a lot of villages that no-one will process the DNA to actually close cases, because, you know, then people in charge would have to address the situation.

Plus, the government royally screwed up the execution - did they really think through what would happen???

The GOI never thinks anything through. That's always been part of the problem.

In a sense, I see it as a behavioral trait that is endemic in Hindu culture. I grew up around it so I see it all the time. Quick to emotion, quick to judge, rush to act. Deliberation never enters the picture until after when suddenly it's time to meditate on what went wrong and why God did this to us.

awe you forgot to add that Kashmir has to pay for the army to be there.....so hmmmm if there is no terrorism that equals no need for army.....so who really benefits when there is an act of terrorism? not the kashmiri.......here in usa i think it would be called job security?

So India generates terrorism? Are you insane? If Kashmir were safe and terror free all along, it would have become a playground for India's wealthy by now. Resorts, lodges, you name it. That's what India wants more than anything. Not to keep playing cat and mouse with a bunch of Pakistanis.

india can not afford for kashmir to be terror free stop and think of the history.........my first visit to kashmir a student was shot in front of us.......was not much better the second time we went.......and thats not even talking about how the army tried to take our car.....or the beating one of our drivers received when he didnt stop in time and turned around to go back to see what the problem was...oh yes and the eleven year old girl that was taken with her mom by the army and the girl was raped until she died when the mother tried to get justice she ended up setting herself on fire....from what i saw of kashmir the people live in fear of the army.........yup saw a lot more than that when i was there but you never read about that in the papers do you? but then a lot of people feel that if its not in the news it never happened
