When Muslims attack, we should be pacifist. Nothing else will make WoM happy.

There is nothing you're ever going to say that will change her mind, until the USA hands itself over to Muslims and accepts Sharia law. Every comment about any action will get twisted towards a negative on the USA or Israel. I swear you could say have a nice day, and she'd reply "How can it be a nice day when Israel is killing Palestinians and USA drones are busy targeting children!". Its the same blinders on view that prevents Israel and the Palestinians from ever negotiating any real peace.

Lovely assemblage of straw men. No one here's said anything about America being at fault for Shia massacres in AfPak. No one.

There's been nothing but unequivocal condemning of those responsible. The discussion about drones was a compare/contrast and nothing more. There can be more than one thing wrong in the world at any given time. To say, "Gee, I hope no one gets the idea that now this area needs to be droned to help out the Hazara and other Shias being massacred, because look at what a goddam humanitarian disaster drones have been elsewhere" does NOT mean anyone's blaming Shia deaths on anyone but the pieces of ####### responsible for those killings, and the governments that enable them.

It means, don't pile on the damn misery.

Now I like that comment! Although since my wife got here and determined to fatten me up, I hardly resemble a straw. But I certainly wish our government was a bit more surgical in their drone strikes, if they're causing as much collateral damage as you say they are. But I would like to see the estimates of noncombatant deaths (and yes this includes children killed) from an unbiased sourced. I'm not against, and will probably never be against using a method that protects USA citizen lives in the hunt to remove terrorists. But that does not mean I support them being used in a manner that puts excessive people in danger, although I know that is going to happen on occasion. Still I blame Pakistan for much of its own problems today. They financed the Taliban to help exert some control in what was going on in Afghanistan, and now its coming back to bite the hand that once fed it. You can say the USA did the same when it was trying to get the Russians out of there to. Add in a dash of Saudi extremism, and sprinkle of Iranian fundamentalism and they're sitting with a real mess.

curious, who would you consider unbiased enough to provide such a count?

I just wish the US was a little more hands off everywhere, and stop being an enabling force for a lot of the world's problems. Nature loves equilibria, and things generally work themselves out...eventually. Trying to stem the flow, and plug all the holes, just means when the dam finally breaks, a lot more people are going to get hurt.

And the biggest problem with trying to be so "helpful"? Everybody ends up resenting you in the end, and we become targets ourselves.

Well I kind of consider a web site such as livingunderdrones.org as slightly biased, wouldn't you? Basically multiple sources that don't have a hand in what people think, but are just reporting facts. I certainly wouldn't consider the USA government sources as unbiased either. You can often tell who has a bias just in the way an article is written. Its rather like art, a bit hard to define but you know it when you see it.

The Patriot is correct.

The challenge, of course, is in extricating ourselves from the mess we've already created without sending signs of weakness to those who would take advantage of it.

Let them try! We Americans are armed to the teeth -- even if the current Administration would welcome them with homemade beer and crumpets.
