Getting a work visa to the US is not easy.

Your employer will have to file a petition for you. An employment based petition will cost the employer money and will take time to complete.

There's no way you can immigrate with your friend based on a simple "job" offer.

6 years?

Why in that time has he not found 5 minutes to have a consultation with an Immigration Lawyer.

That should be your answer.

That depends on the visa.

It depends on the kind of work he's offering you. It could take years.

The employer will have to prove to USCIS that no US citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident will take on the job.

Refer to the USCIS link I posted.

Not necessarily.

There is an alphabet of visa's.

Most people do have a choice, so the best one is whatever the one that fits.

Please note the answer may be none.

Work visas cost upwards of $5000.

It sounds like this friend is a boyfriend? If so, marriage is a much easier way to get a visa.
