I had in mind that a letter of support meant that she was coming to visit, I welcomed said visit and could lend a hand with a place to sleep. Or something along the lines of yes she is my friend, I will be happy to see her and I will be a watchful eye to make sure she is safe during he visit. You saying that is not necessary or helpful? This is my first go around with this type of thing so I am simply looking for guidelines.

Thanks for your time

OP, the only way you will ever know the outcome is if you actually apply. And yes, there are many many people who have been approved B1/B2 visas. Of course, lots have been denied too. Approval or denial will solely be based on your girlfriend's OWN MERITS and how she meets the stringent visa requirements. Nothing more, and nothing less. It's a 50 - 50 chance!

Just ask her to be truthful, follow the instructions strictly and and let her present legit documentation to support her visa application. Do not let discouraging attitude dissuade you or her for that matter from applying. Here's two links below for further reading...Best of luck!

OK no form I-134 what about a letter of support? Are you saying I should not necessarily even be mentioned in the process, like she is coming to the states to trip around by herself?

No form I-134. No "letter of support".

You can write an 'invitation letter'. Some consulates accept it others don't. It will not have much bearing on approval. Everything will be on her own merit.

Thanks everyone I think I get the gist. I can invite her but cannot claim to support her financially to come here (airline tix) or when she arrives (room and board). It will be up to her to prove (with documentation) her children, her home, her paid in full schooling and her child support from her ex is reason enough to return home after visiting the states.

Pretty much. Many people are under the mistaken impression that an offer of support will help their friend/associate/significant other overcome a lack of finances in getting a tourist visa. Unfortunately, the interviewer sees it as evidence of ties to the US and starts them thinking that the applicant may try to adjust status when they get over.

Hey Boiler,

The OP did mention "an extra bedroom" in his post!

I like this girl but I am not the type of guy who marries a girl with two kids unless I am totally sure she is the right girl for me. I just want to spend more time with her and see how life unfolds

I recently helped her fill out the DS-160 and noticed the question, who will be paying for this trip. Now she could technically buy the airplane ticket, and stay at a cheap motel for 3 weeks but honestly I am more than willing to pay the airfare and have her stay in my extra bedroom.

Lol, anyways, Boiler has been one of our most experienced members on here and I would listen to what Boiler has to say!

Good luck,

KnR aka slider100
