My wife loves the dish waser and washing machine. AND SHOES! When she got here (anchorage) she was wearing sandals. I brought her a coat with hood, but she didn't like the color. Took it back. Now she wants the hood. Brought her winter boots. Not stylish enough. Got her different boots, but not winter boots.. Winter boots to ugly. I just love the fashion police in her. She's adjusting every day. Last night she got tennis shoes. It's still winter.

I've taken her all over town to get stuff for the house. Nothing was right. To ugly, to expensive, etc.....then we went to value village and the Salvation Army..OMG! We were in the magic kingdom! She had a blast. It's here her new favorite decorating store.

Each day is an adventure. And it's a great ride. I love everything she does, everything about her. The joy of discovery is awesome and im grateful to be along on her adventure. My only regret in life is not doing this ten years ago. I Absolutly love my filipina wife. Best thing ever to happen to me!

Just remember, you are not just marrying a wife, you are raising a teenage daughter. It's fun to watch them grow up.

Any stories/experiences from Filipinas moving to the boonies here, such as upstate New York or Maine, where the closest shopping mall is well over an hour away and the only stores in town are 1 redneck bar and a small convenience store/gas station? I'd love to hear it.. lol.

Interior Alaska here. We live in a log cabin in the woods. Heat with a wood stove, and cook on that a lot too. Two days ago it was still thirty below zero. I was a pretty crazy bush pilot and still own my supercub but after having kids I really lost the urge for all the extreme wilderness flying I was doing. I didn't mind crashing twice before and nearly killing myself but I feel differently about it now. The last time I took my wife up we were holed up in the Alaska Range for about a week by some glaciers, and when I popped up over the range there was thick, black smoke from forest fires for the remainder of the 90 miles home. I had to fly right on the tree tops in order to see anything and having her in the back, pregnant, was just too much. I've never taken her up since. We broke down six miles from home once on a snowmachine when she was eight months pregnant, and had to walk home. That was also a thirty below zero night, pitch black from cloud cover.

That's why having our boys walking in the woods is normal. It's our home. People are so stupid sometimes with the inability to conceive of any life except their own, so you hear about boys walking in the woods and pretend it is something shocking, earlier in the thread.

I think tomorrow we're going up in the high ground by snowmachine and will take a video of the area since winter is coming to an end soon. It's hard for people to even understand how vast the wilderness is here, and we live right on the edge of it with moose in our yard regularly, sometimes bears, and rarely wolves.

You got that right. There are those that won't believe what you say, but it is way of life shared by many here. I can relate to your flying examples. We use planes like cars. I took my wife out to lake hood today and she couldn't believe the number of planes. There are many of use who envy you. If your everin Ancorage, or need anything from here, look me up.

I have to smile at "boys going for a walk in the woods", I would be left up at our lake cabin during the summers with an old retired friend of my folks keeping an eye on things, I was about 10 years old when my dad told me that if I decide to go for a walk in the woods (there was almost 1000 acres around us) that if I come to a creek turn right and if I come to a road turn left, but to never cross either. I would wander off in the woods after breakfast and be gone most of the day, some times popping out of the woods on the other side of the lake still about 2 miles from the cabin. Many years later I asked my dad how he could let me wander off in the woods like that, wasn't he worried - Nope, he said, I had a good head on my shoulders and knew I would follow directions.

After two years my wife still has trouble with cooler weather and I live in So-Cal. Bought her one of those heat lamps from Costco and she loves it. One funny thing is that she still doesn't understand why sunny days can be so cold. When she sees the sun shinning she assumes it is warm.

I would say the three things that helped her the most with homesickness was a rice cooker, GMA and TFC channels, and the ability to call home whenever she wants. She loves the washer and dryer though will still do some clothes by hand. I also had to rig up a clothes line outside for her. She doesn't care for dishwasher at all.

I had read where you need to give your wife time to examine all 65000 items in the grocery store. She did. I laughed. Last week at Costco, she was smelling the detergent and fabric softener. After it was in the cart. Life is always an adventure with her......woo hoo!

My wife isn't like that at the grocery store, but get her to the mall when she's looking for some shirts or jeans, and we need to visit every store in the place. I take her to the Mall of America on occasion just to watch her run out of gas trying to see every item in every store

My wife actually wasn't all that crazy about the Mall of America when we were up there last summer. She is not a shopping addict... thank goodness!

Mine wasn't a big shopper either when she got here. Having extra money to go shopping was never really part of her life, and she didn't like looking at all the things she couldn't afford to buy. Now that she's discovered we can afford it, she loves to shop. Even when something she wants has to save up for first before she can buy it. She's really good at saving her money for big purchases. She mainly likes the Mall of America because she can buy jeans by waist size at the Levis store that actually fit her small frame and they also have a Sketchers store. We still need to bring most pairs of her jeans to a tailor to make them short enough though.

Ya getting clothes to fit is the "forever" challenge here.

We've had some luck at JC Penny's to. They've got sizes 0 and 00, which will fit her. Those are hard sizes to find in a country were the average woman's size is over 10.

Burnsville J.C. Penny's has a good choice of smaller clothes. A couple filipina's working there and I think they kerp a good selection going.

We're in the northern burbs, but have found a decent selection of jeans at the Rosedale Penny's. She'd still rather buy Levis though. She was really disappointed when we visited the Levis store at MOA that their sale shelves were gone last time we were there. Hope they bring it back, those 60 to 100 pairs of jeans are much nicer when they're being sold for 10 and 20 bucks.
