We are lucky, that one of the local stations carries some Filipino programs, like Balitang America, and a half hour of TV Patrol at the 6 pm every night. The wife got bored with it after she discovered the Food Network, and Hallmark Channel.

There are a few free streaming sites on the internet for Filipino programming, you may want to search for those. I think if you have a good internet connection, and invest in a netbook computer for her, she will be less bored.

Oh, don't forget the electric blanket, some fleece pajamas, and some winter clothing. It will take her a while to get acclimated, if ever. She will need a tabo, or do what I did, and invest in a detachable shower head. If you live on a septic, get the tank pumped before she arrives, and get hair traps for all the sinks. For the vacuum cleaner, get in the habit of unwinding all those hairs before putting the machine away. Mildew control will be import to your home's health, what with the rice cooker going every morning, stews always boiling, and two or three baths a day (hot water will be something she will get used to quickly, and enjoy).

Thanks. I already have some of the items. Electric blanket is already a necessity as I turn the heat down overnight. She will not be here until late March so hopefully the coldest weather is gone, but I know she will still insist 50 degrees is cold as she is not accustom to anything below the 70s.

I can see through my wife fairly easily to. Although when I ask whats the matter, I usually get "Nothing". If it drags out for too long, then I'll start prying to get her to open up. That can piss her off and then the tampo kicks in. But then she'll normally get over it and finally open up. Which is better than having her pouting for days on end.

My wife started out pretty non-materialistic when she got here. But I can see that changing already. She never had more than one pair of shoes when she was in the Philippines. Now she's building a collection. She had one small hand bag, now she's building a collection. She had a couple pairs of jeans in the Philippines, now she has a collection  I really don't mind though, I like the look on her face when I spoil her. And she's usually looking for a good bargain in anything we get for her. Except those dang Coach bags, those never seem to be a deal but at least she's not asking for LV bags.

Hmmmm, I must agree with you. I too like collecting nice design of shoes and hand bags    LOL...almost every month I buy new pairs of shoes - especially when on travels. Working hard to spoil myself LOL. So I understand your wife. Thanks for being supportive to her.

It is just the prelude to purses.

And don't forget the perfume. Shoes, purses and perfume - the 3 go hand in hand.

We slummed. I wore some sort of wedding shirt my mother gave me from her trip to South America, and the wife wore set of matching jewelry her mother gave her to wear on her wedding day. We used another Fil-Am couple we know as witnesses.

Any stories/experiences from Filipinas moving to the boonies here, such as upstate New York or Maine, where the closest shopping mall is well over an hour away and the only stores in town are 1 redneck bar and a small convenience store/gas station? I'd love to hear it.. lol.

cute. You should get use to it. I wont let my husband go without a kiss. It should be the last thing you do before you leave and 1st thing you do when you arrive. Same as before going to sleep and 1st thing waking up. Just Simple gestures which very much appreciated.
