TN Work Permit Question

Hi,

I am a Canadian citizen living & working in the US on a TN work permit (Computer Systems Analyst). My TN work permit expires in February of 2016. I will be marrying an American citizen in October of 2013. At some point I will apply for a family based greencard however for several months after we get married I will need to travel to and from Canada quite frequently and would prefer to keep my TN work permit valid since it makes travelling much easier. As long as we don't begin the greencard process (ie I-130, I-465 etc) can I assume that my TN work permit will be valid just like it was before?

Also, one other question...once we do begin the family based greencard process, does that make my TN work permit invalid? Will I still be able to to work and travel to/from Canada as I do now or will I be required to submit the I-765 for work authorization as well as the I-131 for travel?

Thanks.

Marriage by itself doesn't invalidate it.

Once GC app is submitted, you can still work but you cannot travel until I-131 is approved (or the GC itself, I-131 is meant as a stop-gap measure).

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!
