Be careful flying your foreign born fiancee through China if it requires a change of planes. I am a USC and booked flights through China and when I got to the US Airport to begin journey, they told me I needed a Transfer (Visitor) VISA for China - It was something never mentioned before and seems to be China's way of exacting a toll (charge) to travelers who come through their country. To get the VISA I needed would have taken a few weeks and a little over $100 US.

The airline caught it before I got on the plane and re-routed me through LAX to MNL -

I would avoid China just to be safe.

Hi there... Actually I flew on China Airlines my first trip to the Philippines. I went from LAX TO Taipei then to MNL. Excellent choice I made. I will fly on them in near future again. Plus if you are a Delta Skymiles member you will receive the mileage. Hope this helps

I have taken numerous flights domestically and internationally with several Chinese carriers, including China Airlines. I believe that China Airlines is the country's flagship carrier. Most of the time I have flown from SEA to PEK on Hainan Airlines. I did have one trip from LAX to PVG (Shanghai) on China Eastern Airlines, with the return leg of PEK to SEA. Of all of the flights thus far, China Airlines had a cleanest, roomiest planes, the service was good, the flight was onetime, the food good. The other international Chinese carriers have been spotty in contrast to China Airlines.

IMHO.

Good luck.

when you want to get to the USA from the PI - please, not route through China on any carrier - is a big hassle.

Going through TaiPei / Taiwan - is ok - no hassle -

S Korean also can.

Singapura Best, but is more $$.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

P.S. China Airlines is the flag carrier of the Republic of China (i.e. Taiwan and a few other islands). Do not confuse it with Air China, which is the flag carrier of the People's Republic of China (i.e. the Mainland).

yeah my bad, im referring to Air China :bonk:

I was worried about this after I booked my fiancee's ticket. So today I called both American Airlines and Philippine Airlines in Manila. They both stated that as long as the layover is less than 24 hours a transit, or any kind of Visa for that matter is not required. I had both of them look up her reservation and give me her itinerary so they understood her layover and airline changes. I will give an update after March 2nd if she has any issues.
