Why are so many American men

I'll have to admit it, I've wondered myself why there seem to be so many men here with filipino fiances, many with such a large age gap in between. Since I don't know anyone here well enough I just assume and accept that they just love each other and nothing more. I married a man from India. Didn't plan it and earlier in my life wouldn't have guessed it. It happened though and words can't express what he means to me. Stereotyping can hurt though. We've been stereotyped before because of our relationship, and I wouldn't want to do that to anyone else. It goes both ways though. To say ALL American women are just career driven, ugly, and ect. as the reason for marrying a foreigner is rediculous. Unless a man has dated them all that statement is false. As an American woman, I can tell you that my biggest priorities in life are to be a good wife, good person, and hopefully someday soon, a mother. Secondary to all that, I want to be an excellent nurse. Sorry it just irritates me when comments are made about American women somehow being an inferior "breed" of wives than foreign women.

If I went around describing why I am dating a Brazilian guy, it just wouldn't work, because Rey is not anything like the stereotypes. How can you date someone and yet still describe how their "type" is? "Filipina women are x, y and z" instead of "my fiance is x, y and z"? And then they wonder why she's not like they expected after marriage... did they bother to get to know her as an individual beforehand?

And furthermore...look at the American women on here...sacrificing their lives to live them on hold while they fight for their loved ones. Don't tell me we're not family oriented. That's a load of sh!t right there.

I'm wondering how long of a gap before since the last time some of the utterly charming, intelligent, gentlemanlike, family-loving men of these parts had a thread about how american women are fat/superficial/lazy, etc. Has it been at least 6 weeks?

Seriously guys, do these qualities apply to your sisters/daughters/mothers?

I wonder if the prevalence of stereotypes is part of the reason for problems adjusting. The dating sites encourage it (all Russian women wear heels and makeup and care about their figure and their family; all Fillipina are subservient; all East Asian women are submissive lotus blossoms (stereotypes which don't hold up if you actually know women from that culture) ), and so I think some men buy into the myth, and then, surprise, here's a real individual.

Grains of truth aren't all that useful when evaluating individuals, unfortunately. If we went by my ancestry I'd be constantly surrendering to my militant self.

And stereotypes backed by an industry that has an interest in getting you to believe the stereotype has even less of a grain of truth.

Except this stereotype only exists among a very small select group of men -- I don't find it in my everyday life, so I have to believe it's about those men instead of American women

Just a few observations.

In the U.S. there is shortage of nurses and where do a large number of them come from to fill this shortage, the Philippines.

I used to clean goverment offices and I noticed that if a guy had photos on his desk it was of his wife/girlfriend or children with wife/girlfriend. Women for the most part only had photos only had photos of their children.

well in my office (and every place I worked) every woman has a photo of their husband, so I'm not sure what that means

and yes -- there is a nursing shortage in a lot of the Western wolrd -- I've noticed a lot of men taking up this noble profession recently too

I really really have a problem with people referring to a particular nationality and crediting them with specific traits, as if they were a paticular breed of dog

I believe that most of the men and women who are making comments based upon their own personal experience or interpretation because the majority of us are married or getting married. If a person has not courted and or married that particular nationality or group, their opinion only holds so much weight. Besides, it's just an observation and I wouldn't be so quick to associate humans to animals even to make a point. It's kinda offensive...

Capt Ewok and I are tight so he won't mind this one. Besides there was a bad rumor that we were the same person. Of course, that's not true so don't start it up again...
