Expedite Effects

Now, I imagine some people will dislike this simply because expediting is kinda like queue-jumping, and well, I'd rather not unless I really had to. Which it seems I do. My situation is that my mother, with whom I live, here in the UK is being made redundant very soon, and I myself are in between jobs. Firstly I was wondering if this would be sufficient grounds to have our case expedited as this could potentially leave me homeless. The reason for the need to move to the US faster is that my fiance's grandparents in America have offered to let us stay there rent free until we're able to get on our feet with our new life together etc.

Secondly, my fiance in the US currently doesn't make enough so we'd end up using a co-sponsor when it comes to consulate/embassy stage. We were just wondering if the fact that we expedited this for my (Beneficiary) financial issues at the USCIS stage would affect the later interview stages when it comes down to finances?

Thanks.

I suspect the UK has a much better safety net, maybe you should both consider moving there? Avoiding the dole is not an expedite reason.

That won't be grounds for an expedite. I'm living in a crazy household right now that's quite stressful and am in quite a bad situation myself, but that isn't either. You won't exactly be on the street if you have no job in the UK. You'll be on the dole and will still be able to afford to feed yourself, etc.

Did you try? I saw one post floating around here where one person got an expedite purely because they were missing out on one week's pay just to visit their fiance to help take stuff back to the U.S.

I'm sure medicaid will welcome you with open arms, welcome to USA ;-)

As for expedite, medical reason would hold more grounds over financial probs. If you can prove along that lines, possibility exists. I will let the pros voice their opinion here

As I said, I'm not trying to expedite to jump ahead of everyone else. I'm doing it because we've been offered a place to stay for free, which is ultimately better financially than living apart, with one of us(Me) in hardship.

Won't that place to stay still be available with no expedite? I am sure if they are willing to take you in now they will be when you get processed down the line. I would be very surprised if they gave you an expedite for the reasons you originally posted.

You'll find that nearly all the expedites which are approved are to relieve the US Citizen in some way, ie a medical situation affecting the petitioner.

However even then the financial hardship expedite is very hard to get accepted.

You just filed so you might have to prepare yourselves for six to eight months of your current situation.

Of course it does not cost anything to ask for an expedite and at this stage can't really slow anything down.

You have to keep in mind that anyone can post anything they want with out offering any kind of proof that its true.

And everybodys case is different.

So while there can be the odd exception, common sense should tell you, its either the odd exception, or a tall tale.

As Aaron explained countless numbers of fiance visas are issued from countries such as Vietnam, India, China and the Philippines, where the USC petitioner has more income the the fiance and 'financial hardship' or poor living conditions of the fiance is not enough to get the petition expedited. (In fact it makes the visa seem more suspicious that the fiance may be using the USC to escape from their 'bad situation' to come to the US)

Review the expedite criteria and file for it if you want. But dont base your chances for success on the odd exceptions and tall tales. The facts are for your situation the chances for approval are very slim. You will need a lot of proof and a very generous officer.

You also run the risk of like above- it will be noted in your file (you are broke/homeless and may have ulterior motives for immigrating to the US where free room and board is waiting) That can make your interview harder and may result in a denial of the K1.

That last part is also what I was curious about. I mean yeah, being in a tough spot is bad, especially if there's a possible option to expedite. But I wouldn't want to risk it if it meant potentially risking it at the interview stage, I'd rather ride it out than risk it.

That is also another reason why I would not risk trying to expedite it. Whatever reason you put down will likely stick on your file, whether the expedite is denied or approved. I'm not going to put about my crappy family situation, or they might think I'm trying to emigrate just to get out, when really it's nothing to do with that. Same as if you put down that if you're in such financial hardship that you think your case deserves to be put before people coming from countries like India etc where financial support is a lot worse, they may question your motives at the interview.

If you are experiencing financial hardship and there are zero resources available to you, but you could get a job or get financial assistance and everything will be great. I don't think that because your life will be just slightly better in the USA that they'll expedite your case.

I know it sucks but I doubt you'd get to the US any faster, my husband and I thought about that too seeing as I'm currently unemployed and living in a bedsit that so far has contributed to 2 bouts of pneumonia and chest infections due to no heating and damp conditions. But from what my husband read it seemed it would have to be him ill or me being in danger ie from a war torn country.

I guess your fiance could move into the home and get it all ready for you moving over,if you're going to end up homeless get to housing now and see if there are any options out there to see you through until your visa is approved. You may have to rough it for a while I'm afraid........oh and tip......find somewhere with heating

They wouldn't grant the expedite in your situation.

Financial reasons for expedite are rarely granted. It WILL certainly stay in your file, and won't look good for you at your interview considering your filing for the K-1.

Expediting speeds it up, sure... but you're still looking at minimum 4 months (see my timeline) from filing date. Ride it out there, and don't give the consulate any reason for possibly denying you.
