How did you assemble your package

Hi,

Can I get a general idea of how people put together their packages. I am sending in my I 485, I 130 and EAD applications this week and am not sure what is the best way to go,.

So far I have them all attached in a file folder with an fastener (2 hole punch at top).

Are tabs to identify documents helpful?

Not really, when the package get to them they put in a large folder, and if their are tabs and things like that sticking out the person that has to remove all the extra stuff in order to put in the case folder.

The way I packaged our case was to seperate the various sections with simple paper clips, and placed the entire package in a plastic folder with a string clasp on the front to keep it all together. Kept it simple.

The assembly instructions are very useful.

Basically I divided into sections for each form and accompanying evidence and gave a cover sheet for each thing, explaining the contents and giving an extra explanation if needed (for example my wife didn't have W2s since she didn't work in the USA last year but instead worked in Canada, so I included her Canadian T4s and gave an explanation) Each "section" was then held together with paper clips (no stapling) Sections went like this in this order:

- I-485 with $395 cheque and photos in an envelope

- Certified copy of birth certificate

- I-864 with required evidence (Tax forms, T4s instead of W2s, letter from employer)

- I-864 for Joint sponsor with same type of evidence (just in case they didn't like her working in Canada for a year, for whatever reason)

- Sealed medical (I-693)

- Copies of forms proving current status, including Passport (ID page and pages with entry stamps) and front and back of I-94

- I-130 with $190 cheque, photos in envelope

- Wife's (US Citizen's) birth certificate

- Certified copy of Ontario Marriage Licence

- G-325A for me

- G-325A for my wife

- I-764 with $180 cheque and required evidence

A lot of people use the tabs at the top, but I didn't. Just paper clips for each section of the application.

I used ACCO fastners for each petition so I had three different piles.

we made the mistake of trying to be organized, we did all 3 applications (I485, I765, I131) and put them in 3 separate folders with dividers showing where everything was and put the checks right in front where they would be seen first. then they got out 2 checks, left the third, rejected the application saying we didn't even pay the 3rd fee and sent everything back to us.

so we asked the congressman's office to put a cover letter on it for us, they overnighted it for us too, they just put paper clips to separate each application, put the cover letter on top, and put the checks on top of that. it seemed to go through fine that time, but the woman working with us said sometimes the workers in the mailroom at chicago aren't very motivated...
