I-134 or I-864 for a K1 Visa?

My fiancee recently received her interview date, December 1st. I only filed back in March (victims of IMBRA, first in, last out). Typically, I am leaving everything until the last minute. I am sure that I read on the Moscow Embassy website that they are only accepting I-864s for K1 visas. Am I totally confused? (wouldn't be the first time...)

I-864 is used for immigrant visas like IR-1/ CR-1.

The K-1 visa is a nonimigrant visa and uses the I-134 form.

Here is the instructions from the embassy site in Moscow:

12. Financial documents from the petitioner – a US citizen: please note, that Affidavit of Support (form I-134) is not required, but may be requested. The document must be notarized. Please submit financial documents to show that the applicant will not become a public charge in the United States. Such documents may include, but are not limited to:

- Most recent year tax returns (form 1040) or tax transcripts from IRS

- Copy of bank account

- Earnings and leave statement

- W-2 forms

- Letter from employer

Even though they say it is not required it is the best way to show that your fiance wont become a charge of the state. You need to prove that you are able to support your fiance and the I-134 is the best way.

Oy

I am using a friend as a co-sponsor - and he has already completed an I-864 for me - is this appropriate? Or do I need to ask him to re-do an I-134?

The I-864 is used for adjustment of status, the I-134 is used at the visa interview. They are not interchangeable. Edited by YuAndDan

Thanks. I have no idea how I could have gotten so mixed up. Well the I-134s (mine and my co-sponsors) are filled out and notarized. I'll be sending everything out via DHL in a few days.
