Hi all,

Me and my wife have been married for three years now. When we got married I was the out of status and we applied for change of status, it was approved. We are still happily married and live together but have not had a wedding yet. My family is back home, I am trying to finish school; bottom line we are trying to save some money and have the wedding later. Here are some facts about our situation:

-We are both 26

-Live together but don`t own a house

-Both employed (she makes way more than i do) so i don`t think they will doubt that I am paying her.

-I am trying to finish school while working part time

-Filed taxes together for three years

-Have traveled together multiple times and visited my parents back home, mailed all those pictures to USCIS

When we petitioned to remove condition on my green card; the first time we prepared the package of documentation ourselves. We received a letter saying that more proof was needed. After this fact we hired an attorney to prepare the package. After mailing it for the second time we received a request for an interview which is scheduled for next month.

I feel like we have gathered all the proof that we had, I am not sure what to expect from the interview. What if the interview is denied, what is the step after that. We love each other but we are a young couple and our marriage may not seem "convectional", meaning: no kids, house, retirement plans together. We just share the basic bills......

Can someone advise me what to expect or if someone has gone through this before. I am sure my attorney will talk to me about this but I would like to hear from more people.

Thanks in advance.

Do you have joint lease agreement of the apartment where you live? (if you live in an apartment and not your wife's parents house) Also, you could have affidavits from friends, or family members of your wife. How about car? Do you guys have a car? If so, do you have a joint car insurance? All these together be a proof of bona fide marriage. Good luck!

I can't understand this part of your message - "We are still happily married and live together but have not had a wedding yet.". I guess it is typo. USCIS is looking for evidence of living together, which copy of lease and utility bills provide; and evidence of inter-mixing of finances, which a joint bank account, joint ownership of some asset (house or car or ..).

If you don't have these important document, you will first receive a RFE (Request For further Evidence) and then basing on what you will provide additional, you may or may not be called for interview. Let's say you submitted something, which is not considered sufficient enough, then you both will have to face interview where they will ask question relating to your marraige (personal details) separately to check the answers given by both of you and will decide if you are really married or not. In such case you both need to be really be ready to answer all the personal details correctly - not always easy even if you are living together for the last 2 years but you will have to start preparing on all possible questions and be ready.

Thanks, as suggested I read his post again and still I would like to hear from him what he meant by that statement - whether it is a typo or something else he wants to communicate.

I think sometimes they just call people in for fun, or just randomly select people to interview. I wouldn't worry too much, but I would be prepared. Bring plently of mail addressed to both of you or mail showing you live at the same address. Bring in a joint lease agreement. Bring in bank statements and any account you may have together. (PG and E, phone etc....) Bring in affidavits from friends and family. (notorized) that will vouch that you two are married and are living together. (four should be enough). Also include joint life and care insurance. Bring a large photo album full of pictures at different locations whereing different clothes and around different people. That should be enough.

Practice some questions with each other - like what you do during the day, cell phone brand, email addresses, favorite foods, recent outings, etc.....
