Hit a small roadblock, maybe. Need some quick advice if you can.

I'm a citizen of USA but resident of Mexico for the last 6 years or so. Finally got around to filing for my wife.

Filed I-130 October 26th 2012 directly to Mexico City (I am a USA citizen but long-time resident of Mexico), received approval of petition in the mail on Nov 06 2012. The approval letter said that my petition has been forwarded to the US Consulate in Ciudad Juarez.

Thought I should have heard something by now. I just sent the consulate in Juarez an e-mail and they said they have no record under my wife's name.

Not sure what to do or if there is a problem at all (should I just wait longer?)

Hey Ryan, I had almost the same issue, CDJ is a mess with incoming mail, you basically have to get lucky for everything to go smooth (they lost my petition as well). My advise is to contact Mexico City get as much info as possible, and make a trip out to CDJ like I did, and physically speak to someone at USCIS there in CDJ like we did. The probability that you will get anything done through phone or email on a DCF case is slim and none. I would take all the paperwork and fly to CDJ with your wife and speak to someone there. Once there they may look at your paperwork and re-approve you or find the lost packet. 4 months is way too long.

I would just go to CDJ, you get a lot done that way.

Hi! Quick question. When you say you went to CDJ with all the paperwork, what exactly do you mean? Did you just go there and start the whole thing from scratch or did you first file I-130 and all that stuff? (I'm new here, not really familiar w/the slang! Sorry!)

Hello, I filed DCF by mail from Baja to the USCIS (DCF Direct Consular Filing) in Ciudad Juarez (CDJ). I sent it via FEDEX-MULTIPAK overnight, on 12-10-2012, but USCIS "lost and then found" my package on 1-10-2013. I did not send any original paperwork because 1. The "lost" mail probability, which I was right, and 2. The specifically instruct you on all the forms to not send originals, such as passports, birth certificates, marriage and so on. So right at the beginning of February USCIS returned the whole package (I-130, pictures, copies of stuff, everything we sent except the money of course) saying that "please present original paperwork and it should be done in person", so we did, and they accepted the package and approved the petition on the spot. A couple days later after we returned from this trip, I received the consulate invitation letter at my US domicile. Up to now, we haven't received the one sent to my address in Baja LOL. That tells you something. But I think it depends where you live and where you file, see SCOTT AND AMY, they had no issues with anything, but they filed by mail to Mexico City DF USCIS not CDJ. CDJ has jurisdiction over some Mexican states that included Baja. So had I sent the package to Mexico City, they would have rejected it, or sent it to CDJ anyway. So you can take a chance and send the stuff by mail or go in person and get it done, OR both lol.

I see, thank you for your quick reply! My concern while reading your post was that we live in Baja as well, so I am guessing we have to do this process thru CDJ. I'm kind of in a hurry here, as I really want this to be done by Sept. 15, so I guess it would be better just to take all the paperwork to CDJ and do it in person? Now that you have your consulate invitation letter, what's the next step? Is that your interview invitation? I'm barely getting familiarized with the process (See also: noob), so any help, orientation or comment will be much appreciated!

if you have skype, add me johanramirez74 is my skype name and I can give you some personal perspective and advise rather than going through here :) I would go to CDJ, we have our interview (a date we chose) on 03-21, we could have as soon as 03-09 if we wanted to, just to give you an idea of how fast it can move.

Thank you for the offer! The internet where we are is kinda spotty, so as soon as I get home we´ll get right to it. Thanks again for the help!

We are in a similar situation. I'm the USC and my husband is Mexican. We're living in Queretaro. We filed our I-130 in Mexico City at the beginning of Dec 2012 and received the approval right away. Then, we waited to hear from Juarez... and waited... and waited... Finally, I called the information call line to find out what was happening. Turned out that we had actually been assigned our NVC case number on December 14th but NEVER received the info letter that they sent from Juarez. The info line gave us our NVC case number and Invoice number and now we're completing the DS-260 online. There seems to be issues with mail delivery. Be sure to follow up on it!! You should've received something by now.

I've tried to include the link to the call center here but it won't allow it... I'm new here so not sure why. You can find the call center numbers at usvisa-info dot com. Just click on telephone service information at the bottom.

Another Baja resident here just beginning the process. How did the trip to CDJ go?

After a 24 hour bus ride to CDJ I got an e-mail from them saying they tried to contact me by mail Feb 6 but the mail was returned. So they gave me my case number and NVC and a link to where I'm able to schedule my consulate interview and ASC appointments online. So far so good.
